Load MIDI Pattern

I want to quickly listen to different drum patterns but the media player in the Load MIDI Pattern window makes no sound. I use a PC with Windows 7 running Sonar X1 and my interface is the Motu 828 mkII. Any ideas?

If your using the media browser you need to have a preview synth loaded to play the midi files. For drums you can load session drummer. Roland sound canvas would work but the drum sounds aren't as good as session drummer.

Insert Session drummer. Insert a MIDI track and assign it's output to Session Drummer. Open Media browser, find the folder with the patterns and drag and drop to the MIDI track. You can also drop the folder into Win Amp or WMP and it will play them with your MS wavetable synth via on board sound card. This is a faster way to listen to a batch of them. Then make notes of the ones you want.

Sorry I should have mentioned I am using session drummer 64 bit and it plays back fine. When I  want to change a midi pattern I can't listen to it in the previewer (The media player on the right side of the Load MIDI Pattern window). It looks like it is playing but I can't hear it. The only way I can hear a new pattern is when I double click on the pattern and then play it with Session Drummer which seams slow.

Right click on the tab marked media. Go to the bottom item in the drop down menu "Synth preview output" and select session drummer as your preview synth. That will allow you to preview midi drum files in the media browser without loading them into your project.
