Finally getting up to speed with X1D expanded after owning X1 for more than a year.
I think I got X1 when it was released or shortly thereafter and other than a few experiments outside of my studio I never did anything with it. This weekend I decided to take the plunge and combine learning my new mixer/routing setup (DM3200) and X1 at the same time. For the first 15 minutes I was completely flabbergasted at how deeply I had memorized my previous routing setup (DM24). I had prepared the session in 8.53 so I knew I was going to be able to start recording pretty much right away once I had the routing taken care of.
The first shocker came in the form of changed short cut keys. I can't remember what got me first but it was a comedy of surprises sometimes. I mostly got hung up trying to figure out how to put clip envelopes on some clips. It took me awhile to figure out how that system had changed. The major hangup was that searching the help file for clip envelopes or clip automation didn't really get me much of anything. I think I figured it out by accident a little later.
I felt clumsy with prochannel and I really need to get more familiar with how it works and how the plugs sound. I couldn't really dial in a kick sound that I was digging. I know I didn't give it much time but I'm used to quicker results with some other plugins that I opted not to use. Time and experience will change that.
One weird thing that happened is that when I first started the session the meters on the armed tracks worked whether the transport was engaged or not for setting levels. At some point it stopped functioning when the transport was stopped. I'm not sure why the meters only worked while the transport was engaged but it was sort of annoying. Maybe there's a keystroke that did this. I think it remains this way.
For the most part it wasn't a fast moving session so I had time to figure things out on the fly and by the end of the day I was feeling pretty okay about getting around in X1. Maybe someone has a suggestion about the meters. My console was fairly useful for setting levels but I still think it's odd that it stopped working. I might try deleting the AUD.INI file and seeing if that changes anything.
So far X1 is pretty alright. I will continue to track with it through this project as long as the intensity stays low.
