NO SOUND - once again

I am running Sonar X1 Producer (PC) with a Presonus StudioLive 16.4.2 and cannot hear any sound when playing tracks. I believe I read something about the "Master" being assigned to a silent output. However, I cannot find anywhere to fix this problem. Can someone please help? This is infinitely frustrating. Why doesn't this problem auto fix within the software? median p.s. - My machine is a custom ADK pro audio build that was setup by them but I am still having trouble hearing my tracks and ADK is closed. AH~!

Sounds like a routing issue. Check that your track output(s) are going to your master buss, or a buss that ultimately goes to your master buss.

Then in the buss view check that you master buss output is set to your sound card/interface main outs. They obviously need to be connected to something so that you can hear the output as well.

Also check that there are no solos or mutes active anywhere in the project.

It would be easier to help if you told us how are your tracks ins and outs and sound card settings in Preferences dialogue.
Is your Master Bus routed to a silent output, as you mention getting a message? Ie. where is it routed to ie. what does it say in the output box of your Master bus?? Is the Presonus selected for everything in the Preferences (record and playback timing master, in/out drivers)? Are you using ASIO driver mode?

    +1 on FBB and Kalle

Also there are a couple other things that could be an issue

If the 16.4.2 was powered off at anytime X1 was brought up, mine will loose sight of the sound output (Just back out of X1 and come back in) .  Have it powered on first before launching X1

There is also a current problem with X1 loosing sound output.  Screen will look like everything is working (scrolling, meters working, etc...) just no sound output. Have to back all the way out and come back in to get it back.

Are you trying to playback MIDI or Audio tracks or both?

I believe I read something about the "Master" being assigned to a silent output. However, I cannot find anywhere to fix this problem

    1. Route All your tracks to the master bus and
    2. Route your master bus to your main outs 1/2 of your sound card/interface.
    3. All busses (besides your master bus) should be routed to your master bus.

Thats all you need to do...

As Mike (digi2ns) says, "There is also a current problem with X1 loosing sound output.  Screen will look like everything is working (scrolling, meters working, etc...) just no sound output. Have to back all the way out and come back in to get it back."

I have a thread on this and open tickets with Cakewalk and Sweetwater.  Sound will just stop in the middle of a session.  Or it won't be there at all when I open a project.  Closing out and coming back almost always fixes it—but that's a huge problem since some projects, especially those using Hollywood Strings, can take a long time to open.  Just starting Sonar is slow.

These guys all gave solid advice. Although, I didn't know some people were having sound stopping issues.

Is there anything thing else running that uses your sound drivers? If so, you may want to go to preferences and check the "Share Drivers With..." under Playback and Recording.

I have a project that has one audio track. That track will not put out any sound when I play the project in X1. No meters either. I can find the .wav manually and play it with Windows Media Player, but X1 will not play it. It's 1 track, 1 bus, no effects. I have several projects that this has happened to with dead tracks that I had to re-record.

I'm running an M-Audio Fast Track Ultra.

Sometimes things just get goofed up. See if you can find the file and play it in Windows Media Player and go from there. You may have a corrupted project.
