DPC Latency Checker: Worst culprits?

It always shows a reading of 100-110, which seems to be fine, but I often read posts where people get it down to 10-20.  Without getting into alley specs, I'm wondering if there are certain services/processes that can be modified  to lower the latency, "rule of thumb" type things to shut off or disable.

Running X1d x64 on an ADK i7 3.2ghz with 12 gb RAM.    Windows 7 Home Premium

I ran the dpc latency detector and did some troubleshooting and narrowed down the latency to my wireless adapter. I disable wireless now when I use Sonar -- with better results.

You're fine in the 100-110us range. It's the spikes that can cause you problems while using your DAW. And these spikes are very often related to background processes (scheduled tasks etc.). And as mentioned by "mleghorn", the wifi adapter is a major "pain in the DAW" making it worth your while to disable it when "dawing".

Where I'm confused a tad is why not simply call up ADK and let them guide you through the streamlining process??

    Don't worry about it.

Deferred Procedure Calls are primarily hardware interrupt handlers, meaning they are tied to hardware devices (e.g. disk controllers, video adapters, network interfaces). Reducing DPC-based latency therefore can only be accomplished by disabling adapters or replacing them with more efficient cards. There aren't many adapters in there that you don't need for audio, so your options for improving efficiency are few.

Your 100us spikes may not look ideal, but 100us is a very brief interval (less than 5 samples at 44.1 KHz) and isn't likely to cause dropouts (if it does, it's not your only problem). The system is either fast enough or it's not - there is no advantage to being faster than necessary.

But if you really want to get those DPC spikes down, you may be able to. The first step is to determine which device is causing the largest spikes. That in itself is not easy. Most people determine it through trial and error, but even the most systematic methods are still indirect supposition. Once you've identified the culprit, you're faced with what to do about it - disable or replace. If it's a critical component (e.g. video adapter) you'll spend significant money just to find out if brand x offers lower latency than brand z. It's not information they put on the box.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

Thank you all, especially bitflipper.  Was just a point of curiosity, not a noticeable issue.  Curiosity satisfied, I'll follow the consensus advice and not worry about it!

Although it's pretty much irrelevant my ZED-R16 drivers are the biggest culprit. My DAW with ZED turned off around 6-8 usecs turn it on 50 - 60 usecs.
