Popping during playback

I'm fairly new to cakewalk and pretty ignorant to the technical side of the software. I successfully recorded quite a few songs on my old laptop until my soundcard started going out. I've gotten a brand new laptop with Windows 7 since and I installed Cakewalk and tried to play the audio demo track right off the bat and I get the audio but it has popping over it. It's like a choppy sound kinda like a helicopter over the audio. It's the same with the playback on anything I record as well. Anyone know what the deal is?

              Hi,
What kind of soundcard do you have ? What are the specs of your laptop, and what are you recording
              audio or midi ?

Press 'H' on your keyboard and that removes the helipad from outside your house and the noise will go away.

But seriously it could be your audio settings. We need some specs as to what you're using, soundcard etc and what your latency/buffers etc are set to. You may be asking your system to do too much on low settings and it's causing glitchs such as popping. These settings are important and affect performance.

The dreaded ON BOARD sound card syndrome! You can't run $400 software on a $12 sound card. You need a USB or Firewire audio interface to work properly with any DAW. I thought this fact was in large print in the header?

hmmm I tried to follow the video and the only thing I really found was if I went to Driver Settings and Mixing Latency and put the buffer size slide all the way over to Safe, the popping slowed down and was less frequent but still there. Latency is 349.2 msec if that helps?

You will need a dedicated audio sound card /interface, because using a laptops onboard sound chip doesn't cut it for the most part. Onboard sound chips lack the drivers needed for audio programs

Also, you will need a hard drive that spins at 7200 RPM. So get an external USB hard drive or an eSata drive and make that your dedicated audio drive. Your laptop probably has a drive that spins at 5200RPM and that may not cut the mustard.

    Good sound card:
