I know I haven't been on much in a while, here's what I have been up to
With some help from Danny, I had remixed the bands new record and he has mastered it and it came out great. The initial job he did mastering was absolutely pristine sounding from a technical standpoint but the guys in my band all agreed that they wanted a little more low end punch and bottom in it, so it was re-mastered a second time to achieve that vision. Here is the last "master" I did of this song before involving Danny Danzi http://www.soundclick.com/player/single_player.cfm?songid=11408345&q=hi Here is a youtube video (picture slide show really) with the audio from Danny's Master, A few days ago I put the slideshow together from a ton of live pics taken over the last year. http://youtu.be/044WocDAfyk Huge difference in the clarity, focus, and separation between the two. After learning all that I have in the past month or so, I am actually kinda embarassed of the mix I had initially done on it.

Awesome job Chuck! Thank you so much for the opportunity to work with you on this. I had a blast and made a great friend for life out of the whole thing...which I'm even more happy about. You did a nice job on everything and were a pleasure to work with. I hope that we can work together again on a future project at some point. If not, the friendship we've made here will last a lifetime. Thank you (and the guys) once again. I posted a little mention about you guys on my Facebook page saying the album was complete and how much I loved the band. :) All the best brother! -Danny

Chuck and Danny, you nailed this one. Every element is clear, punchy, and present. Very good vocal tracks in this song. Kudos to all involved.

Mike & Lynn - Thank you both very much. Herb, thank bud. Yep it was initially a bit slower and if you listen to ther lead guitar line you can kinda hear how that was originally a piano piece. Yeah I decided to add the those annotations to make it more fun to watch.

Not to be contrary, but the SC mix sounds pretty excellent on my k701 cans after several listens. I find the slide show to be too monophonic ... lacking stereo dimension and sparkle ... on my K701 cans. Aside from that, things seem a bit smeared to my ears: That may be the You-Tube degradation, I don't know. Yeah bro, the SC version seriously rocks, IMO! Its clean, clear, with excellent vocal (co-)dominance. And I love this song! MGH is a mighty metal producer; I hope he chimes here. Please solicit his input.

Hey Philip! Thanks for dropping in and giving this a listen man. I always appreciate an honest assesment good or bad and I can say this... I know that when I initially mixed it I had both guitars pretty hard panned left and right for separation, and in the final mix sessions I felt that this song kinda lost something in the verses like that. In the SC version the right guitar is busy but fails IMO to hold that rythem together on it's own so that side sounds weak compared to the chunking rythem on the left. In the final mix I had brought the left guitar in a bit as to give some body to the right side and left the right guitar panned pretty hard. but that is likely the difference in stereo image you are hearing. Then yes I also hear a difference in the vocals and I can tell you how this occured too. They were mixed the same way I had them in the SC version and sounded 100% like that in the initial master. Then as I said in post 1, my band wanted a bit more bottom overall. Danny did a hell of a job doctoring the mix up on the 2nd pass and gave it to me to ask what we thought. I noticed that adding a little more thump also added a hair more bottom to the vocals effectively reducing it's presense slightly however I didn't feel that it was so detrimental that it warranted a full remix and remaster from scratch to give it more low end while not effecting vocals either. At some point we needed to call this record done and move on! Also... yes on cans the Sc mix doesn't sound too bad, but it in a car stereo or a nice set of monitors and then all that nastl low end rumble I had in there pops it's ugly head out! Thank you again brother!
