New system - projects will not open.
I guess I shouldn't be surprised, but I'm having trouble opening old projects after a major computer upgrade (motherboard, CPU, memory and GPU). I've got Sonar X1 Expanded version 1d patched and working. Got my plugins back. Using Win7 64bit. I can create new projects and record and playback fine. So that's the good news. However, my old projects will not open at all. Sonar goes into "Not Responding" mode as soon as I try to open. Also, my old custom Project template will not load either. Not surprising as it has Dim Pro, Superior Drummer 2 and a bunch of other plugins loaded into it. Needless to say, I would very much like to get my old projects back. I was using the exact same version of Sonar before the upgrade. I'm hoping there's something I can try. Any help you guys can give would be hugely appreciated. Regards, Harro.

That sounds odd, you are saying the old projects were CWP files and recorded in the 64 bit environment?? I had no problem opening 32 bit Sonar 7 and 8.5 / XP files with X1 64 bit W7, It just warned me of a few plugins sounding different but loaded the new 64 bit versions and all was fine.

Are your bit depths set the same in your defaults on the new installation as they were in your old one? Do you still have access to the old system to be able to check that? And have you tried running your program as administrator? You can also tell Windows to allow Sonar to run without protection. Just a couple of thoughts...good luck!
When one is doing the process of self-analysis, One should make sure that the Self that is doing the analysis is, in fact, sane. Sonar X3 (always patched to current) Win7X64 8gb RAM Quad Core AMD 3.6mhz TASCAM USB interface EMU 1616m PCIe interface w/breakout Rapture, Dimension Pro, Studio Instruments, Zeta 2, tons more of Cakewalk's software Tons of IK, NI Camel Audio and other softsynths, plugins M-Audio Keystation Pro 88

Yeah this is a new one on me too. I'm wondering if it might be that I've had to re-authenticate superior drummer and guitar rig for the new motherboard or something. But I can't know for sure. Nothing will open. I know usually, if it's a plugin problem at least the file will open so I can fix it. Safe mode doesn't seem to work either. I try to open the file. The little mouse icon turns into a circle telling me I need to wait, but never changes. Nothing loads. If I try anything it tells me Sonar has stopped Responding. Frustrating!

Yes Divinit, I took screenshots of my preferences before I reformatted. Everything is identical in the Preferences with regards to bit depths. I just tried the Administrator thing: no dice. Not sure how to tell Windows to run something without protection though. I'm thinking at this point, I may have to drag the Audio and midi information into a new project and see what i can salvage that way. Reeeeally don't want to though.

Do you still have your old system? Open the files with it and strip the VST's and re save. Or install the version of Sonar you created them with in the new machine.

Nah, I only own the one PC. I updated and reformatted my C drive. I've done it before but never had this trouble.

Does anyone know if it's possible to get help with this from some Cakewalk people? Not sure how to go about this. TIA. Harro.
