Keep Sonar 7PE to Migrate from xp32 >Windows7 64bit? Or uklpgrade to ???

I love Sonar PE 7 and it does everything I want it do, but as I add plug-in's and want to add virtual instruments, my old box is totally maxed out. I've decided it's time to go to Windows 7 and 64 bit. I've read some posts saying that Sonar 8.5 is more optimized to work with multicores (I'll be getting some type of quadcore) than my Sonar 7 PE version. I'm frugal by nature and hate to spend money unnecessarily, but have the resources to buy what's needed to do my upgrade. I'd love some feedback as to: 1.) Can I just use my Sonar 7 with quad cores without problems 2.) Could I upgrade to Sonar 8.5 and does that make any sense. 3.) If Sonar X1 is the best option, can I upgrade from Sonar 7 to SonarX1 or do I have to buy X1 as a new purchase? I assume I'd need the Producer version, how much should I pay. Many thanks!!

    I have tried running Sonar 7PE on a Windows 7 platform and it appeared to work ok.  There were some issues with my setup, but I believe that these were not directly related to either Sonar or Windows.  I suggest that you try  installing your existing software on the new PC before deciding whether to update Sonar.  By the way, all the cores seem to be active while Sonar is running, even when running in Windows XP.

    I installed Sonar 7 on my Windows 7 64 bit computer, No problems that I could see. It runs smooth. The only problem is you can't take advantage of using more RAM. This helps with things like Session drummer. I bought one of the last copies ( I think) of 8.5 from a dusty shelf in a music store so have not used 7 for a long time. To bad you cannot purchase 8.5. It is the perfect upgrade from 7. I will continue to use it until it is no longer supported by new OS. X1 is not everyone's cup of tea. It has seemed to go through a lot of crazy updates ect and the dust has still not settled. I downloaded the trail version ( you should do the same ) and gave it a good effort but it just brought my workflow to a grinding halt ( see the thread below since x1 I've never been so productive)

    Absolutely stay with Sonar 7. I am running 7.0.2 as a 64-bit app under Win 7 64 bit. It runs flawlessly, and is much faster and less clunky than X1. I have 16 GB of RAM and a fast i7 processor. I tested X1 for many months and there are new bugs in the staff view (where I spend a lot of time). You will get absolutely no benefit from moving to X1, in fact, screensets are clunky compared to the layouts in Sonar 7, which are very fast and smooth. This is my experience. JG www.jerrygerber.com

    That is not correct. You can take advantage of far more RAM with Sonar 7 IF you installed the 64-bit version of the program (on installation disc). I am running 7.0.2 under Win 7 64 bit in 64 bit mode and can access 16 GB of RAM and am able to run large library files. Sonar 7 is running great as a 64-bit app in Win 7. JG www.jerrygerber.com
