Sound showing in default speakers configuration, but no audio activity in mixer...

My friend has got a two years old laptop, Toshiba Satellite (L650/655 or something)

Suddenly she lost all sound. The sound bar is showing activity in the speakers audio out cofiguration, which is the only option there, but nothing at all coming out.

All soung playing devices are showing in the mixer but there the sound bars are not showing any sound from anywhere, also not in the main output volume bar.

Her driver is last update and she tried 3 time to uninstall it and to reboot with no change at all. All settings seem to be ok too.

There is no conflicts or errors in the device manager.

She is not very good with computers, so she will not be able to do anything too complicated heself. - Any ideas..??

I take it you're talking about the on-board soundcard.

I know that on my laptop, on the front 'panel' there's a volume up, volume down and a mute button.
Also if you click on the little speaker icon on the taskbar, on the bottom of the volume slider is also a mute button.

Any chance she accidently hit one of those?

Solved!:Sound showing in default speakers configuration, but no audio activity in mixer... 2012/04/29 11:21:25 (permalink)

Thank you very much for your answer.

There was no volume controls outside of this computer, and the real strange thing was the fact that this problem suddenly occured while computer were switched on but not in use.

First i thought that a new free windows mixer would solve it, or maybe an external USB sound card/Interface/speakers would do.

But first of all, I actually managed to find the same version of the audio file online as the audio driver version which already was installed as an executeable file and running this file instantly solved it all!

At a normal update it only gave the message that the best driver already was installed, but this .EXE-file did the job for sure!

Computers are just great...  - As long as they're working!!!  ;0)

Sweet.
My girlfriend just doesn't understand it.
I refuse to let these damn little plastic chips beat me. I love when I figure out and fix a PC.

She just calls me a computer geek.
