V.V.K.T. - Nebula 3 thing

Guys...I am feeling like an alien right now...

I was doing my "searching for new plugs" morning diggest and found this www.acustica-audio.com site wich uses a thing called Vectorial Volterra Kernels Technology (V.V.K.T.) to emulate all kinds of VST plugs like dynamics, eqs, reverb, etc...

There is also : www.cdsoundmaster.com and www.alessandroboschi.eu/html/en/alexbprograms.htm

I made a Google search and found out that I really am out of date on it... There is a thread on Gear Slutz dated of 2009 sayng only good things about this technology... I never heard about it... I never saw a single thread about it here,at CW forum...

I know this is not the right forum section to post this thread, but certainly is the most visited... And I did saw threads about Waves, UAD and Slate's plugs in this very section... So ...

Anyone using it? They are claiming (like everybody else) they got the ultimate technology to do hardware emulations...

Thanks for your opinions...

Peace.

I don't know about the others but I know Nebula (2 anyway).
Not an easy plug to grasp, there is a learning curve.

That being said, it is a very nice plug with nice emulations BUT it is very CPU intensive.
Not sure if they addressed that in version 3 or not.
They used to offer a free version too. you might want to see if they still offer it so you can test it out.

    Hmmm... they do...

I just downloaded a new free plug they are offering called Acqua Vox "AcquaVox is a simple to use - yet world class – emulation of a classic, highly revered preamp.  Perfect for adding warmth to recorded instruments like guitars and drums, and for imparting analog feel to vocal tracks.
Best of all, AcquaVox is a FREE product!".

I am a huge fan of and use Nebula.  I use the console emulations from Alex B's site that you referenced and especially the Color Preamp Suite that he makes.  From CDSoundmaster I use the R2R set extensively and also the TapeBooster which I like on electric guitars and snare drums for example.  For more extreme coloring I use the radio circuitry emulations at www.cupwise.com.  I often put them after the delays on a delay bus.

Yes, workflow is different for sure.  For the console and tape emulations I have learned which I want for certain tasks and then process them offline using Nebulaman, you can download this manual at http://www.zabukowski.com/software/NebulaMan%20Quick%20Guide.pdf to get a good idea.  On my machine it only takes about 5 minutes to render a project with my preamp/console/tape chain and then I use only use Nebula on a few tracks.  I then import the tracks in to my mix template and go from there.  EQ's and 'verbs I add and use as regular vst's from that point.

The EQ's available for Nebula are a big selling point, especially the Mammoth and DocFear eq's at http://www.analoginthebox.com/ .   The Mammoth is modelled on the Manley Massive Passive, great for opening up the sound without artifacts.

Last but not least, the EMT reverb from http://vnxtsound.blogspot.com/ is another one that gets used on every project.

Just a note, I hear it's improving but compression is not something that I would currently use Nebula for.  Besides, I love the options we have available in X1 for that purpose anyway.

    Happy hunting!

To give another view, I really intensely dislike Nebula. Utterly bewildering, user-hostile design. It would have to be pretty mind-blowing to make up for that for me. But all it is, is a good quality reverb, and there are hundreds of those around.

Greetings; I've been using Nebula for a couple years now...yes, it's a hard plugin to get your head around, but some of the 3rd party add ons are outstanding, especially IMHO EQs and reverbs (i haven't tried any of the consoles yet).

I'm less impressed with Nebula compressors, but i'm still using Nebula 2, and apparently the newer versions of Nebula are optimized for compressor emulations.

There is pretty good support on the Nebula site, and if you're willing to put in some time reading old threads by the developers, you can pretty much find all the info you need to use Nebula effectively.
