Caps Lock?
In another thread, I noticed that someone hit the Caps Lock key by mistake. That useless key has been a nemesis of mine ever since I started typing. For starters, what a stupid place to put a useless key. Second, could they make it a little larger, maybe like the size of the space bar? And lastly, who the hell actually uses it and for what? Is it that difficult to hold down the shift key for a letter or two? Please respond post haste because I can't afford to lose another nights sleep over this. Thank you for your time. Mike

I always found it useful for entering case sensitive product keys that you used to get printed on a card when you bought SW that came in a box. Something like: JX14B23-CQRM12-PQZ11A0O9-ARGGGHHHH17
In order, then, to discover the limit of deepest tones, it is necessary not only to produce very violent agitations in the air but to give these the form of simple pendular vibrations. - Hermann von Helmholtz, predicting the role of the electric bassist in 1877.

It's still a hark back to qwerty boards having been inherited from typewriter technology. Things like that hang around because that is the way keyboard use gets handed down the line. I don't find it a problem, in fact I find it useful, for example because I learned my qwerty skills on a typewriter. Pianos are the same, there are better tunings than the twelve equal tone system over several octaves without being comma delimited (averaged) that can be incorporated into modern keyboards but because it is a standard that has implications over many instruments and scores it ends up being stuck where it is. Microtonal technology is already incorporated into many synths and keyboards but doesn't enjoy widespread use, most people continue with the tried and trusted ways of a mathematical average over pure harmonic tonality because that is still the most accepted way rather than the 'best' way. Some things are 'best' purely because they provide a good compromise for the most users because of the tradition that they've evolved from.

Well, Caps Lock works nicely with the Forum Software so I don't THINK THERE'S ANYTHING TO COMPLAIN ABOUT today. Despite my earlier Caps Lock insident - I still really like that key. It gets in the way from time to time but when I need to WRITE IN CAPS or SHOUT REALLY LOUD ON THE INTERNET it's really handy. And I do that a lot IIRC

You're correct about the size and placement of the CAPS LOCK key. I keep hitting it when I want to TAB. I'd like to keep the function, but move it somewhere else.
