Since I first got this he's added the dark modes, then nostromo and narcissus, then sulaco and now the lv-426. It's like I got a whole new reverb for free an update at a time.

The LV425MediumHall is my new favorite reverb for lush strings. That you can buy such a versatile reverb for fifty bucks is just amazing. You'd have to be really obsessive about reverb to spend $1500 for Lexicon when VRoom comes so close for the price of an afternoon at the movies.

How does Valhalla compare to IK's CSR?

I don't have the IK's CSR as I didn't want to invest in another 32bit plug I didn't need but Vroom is a Great goto algo type reverb that could be used in about every situation. Seems to be light on resources also.

The UI is simple but effective and the effect types cover all the bases. With a little tweeking you do have some control over the early and late reflections.

I believe it is free to try. Here is a link: http://www.valhalladsp.com/valhallaroom

I don't have CSR, either. However, I do have SampleTank. Its bundled reverb is a subset of CSR, and it sounds pretty good. Based on that, I've always assumed that CSR would sound good, too. Had they offered it for $49 a year ago I'd have jumped on it.

But it's unlikely I'll ever buy another reverb plugin. ValhallaRoom pretty much covers all my reverb needs (save one: when I want to replicate a specific real space, in which case I've got PerfectSpace).

Remember how CSR was on my wish list for a long time? ;)

After demoing both last summer, I opted for Valhalla. Not only was it cheaper, but testing them side by side, Valhalla seemed at least as good. I say at least.

Since then, I've received something like 5 free upgrades w/ new algorithms. So what seemed at least as good during the demo period only got better. CSR hasn't been updated since 2009 and I'm guessing the next major update won't be free. ;)

Sound quality aside, the other thing I'm absolutely fond of w/ Valhalla is the GUI. It may not be as sexy as IK's hardware replicas, but in terms of understanding what you are doing, it's second to none.

BTW, I finally grabbed CSR a few weeks ago because it was on sale - and because I'm an addict. I figured it'd give me an interesting option to upgrade if IK ever update it. But that's about all I can say about it.

For me, it's either Valhalla or Logic's convolution reverb. If any one asked me, I'd say grab Valhalla first.

Bitflipper said: "You'd have to be really obsessive about reverb to spend $1500 for Lexicon when VRoom comes so close for the price of an afternoon at the movies." For me and my family of four here in Tennessee, it's cheaper than a matinee! (By the way, 3 Stooges was Hilarious!). Please forgive format, using Firefox.
