Batch Processing???

Is this a possibility in Sonar 8?

I'm aiming to batch process a bunch of FLAC files into mp3??

If not, does anyone know any decent free software that would handle the job?

Wave Lab will convert anything into anything so I'm sure most any wave editing software would have the feature. Wave Lab Elements is $100 but well worth every penny. I do all my editing via Tools copy and of course my Mastering. It supports all the Cakewalk plugs ins as well as adds a few to your collection. Just a thought, FLAC is a loss-less conversion so I think I'd go FLAC to WAVE.

Media Monkey (paid version) will also convert FLACs to MP3 or whatever. Its only $30-40.

foobar2000 will convert just about any audio format to any other format. And it's free.

    Hmmm..

I've used Sound Forge for years to do this, but my students might jump on Foobar as a utility.

For y'all that use it;  In the Converter dialog box there are options to:

    A. Generate Multi-Track Files
    B. Merge all tracks in to one output file

B seems like that would take CD ripped separate tracks and concatenate them into one wave file.  but what does A do?  Does it separate a single file into region defined separate files?  I most likely am just considering Multi-track too broadly here.

In Foobar2000 "Generate multi-track files" will merge files according to the grouping that you put into its entry box. The default is to merge all "tracks" (which in foobar-speak is an item in the playlist) into files grouped by artist and album. So if you have a bunch of albums by different artists in your playlist, that command will create one big file for each album.

You can also make it do other things, depending on how you set it up. That's just how it works out of the box. Its official function is to merge files depending on their tags.
