Just volunteer over enthusiastically for every assignment - "clean the toilets? Oooh pick me! pick me!!" and they'll gladly leave you alone from then on.

Being ex-military, I pretty much had instilled into me "do what you are told to do". That has translated itself into "do what I have to do" as I have aged. I certainly do not enjoy cleaning toilets, and figure I have earned the right to not clean toilets, but that does not mean I wont if there is a need. If however, a lot of time passes and I am the only one being the "janitor", I may begin to encourage a settlement of the dispute or I may begin to examine my options instead.

Thats a tough one for me Beag,
30+ years of both sides of the fence.
I can say that ALLOT of it depends on the business you are involved in.  There are a few different worlds that fall into this catagory which present different problems with non-union, union and employers. At the federal government level its real tough as far as how the regular full time craft employees are at each others throats because of assignments, who can do what, pay grades, etc... Then you have the other side that thinks they are to good to do something or its NOT there job to do it.

My personal opinion is as the same as it is at home.
If it needs done and you can do it-Do It
If you get it out, put it away
If you make a mess, clean it up
If you fill the trash, take it out
If you dirty something up, clean it up
If you empty something, refill it
........and on and on

I prefer to leave things better than I recieve or find them

Just how I am

Once, when I was a chimney sweep, I was asked to entertain a couple of kids at a picnic while they had a picnic.  Reluctantly, I agreed.  It was a lovely day, but the nanny was really irritating.  I invested the whole day on these folks.  I admit, I was a little concerned about the loss of time and how it might impact my workload, but they were clearly lost without me.  I mean, someone has to dance on those rooftops.

Fortunately, the kids and their stuck up babysitter joined me on the rooftops and we all got the job done.

Somehow, I ended up with a kite out of this deal.  I might just go fly it...
