Should my 32 bit sessions work in 64 bit?

Hi guys, I installed the newest Waves V9 update last night which makes them 64 bit compatible. Perhaps it was naive of me to figure my old sessions would open. When I try it appears to be loading, but it just hangs forever. The Waves plugins work fine if I open a brand new session and insert them. The sessions open if I launch the 32 bit version. Just curious what your experience has been.

Doesn't sound naive to me; I too would have expected your old sessions to open, as long as you installed both 32- and 64-bit versions of the plugins. But that company does seem to exist in an alternate universe, one with its own conventions and standards.

Sorry I don't have anything helpful to add. I'm still happily humming along in a 32-bit world. But I saw that your post was a day old with no replies so I figured it needed a bump.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

My son gave me his Windows 7 workstation. So I installed the 64 bit version of Sonar. All my old projects opened with only warnings about some plug ins "May sound different". It seemed to replace all the 32 bit plugs and VST instruments with 64 bit. I use 90% default Cakewalk plugs so I think that is why I had no issues. My one 3rd party plug had a 64 bit version in the folder already so also was working. SO I would think that if before you try and open the old projects make sure you have all the 64 bit versions of ALL the plugs you used in the folders. It ( should) will automatically load up in the 64 bit environment. But as Dave say's , WAVES might be an exception. Were they not designed with Pro Tool users in mind?

    I have the same issue.

When 64 bit scans my VST folder that are ilok related, it hangs.
