Sonar X1 - assitance required

I am currently trially Sonar X1. I am using a USB midi controller and the packaged VST. I am able to use all the controls, input midi data, hear the output etc. The problem is that each time a note is played there is an audible "click" echo a fraction of a second after every key strike. Any ideas as to cause and remedy please. Thanks.

Latency set to the default ie 250 as suggested by the product help.

As suggested, try increasing latency and also play around with buffer settings.  Are you using a decent audio interface?

I like your super-descriptive subject line. Really sums it up.

Will try increasing latency. Audio interface is as per. supplied with PC - nothing special. Should mention - I have no similar problems with Reaper.

Which soft synth are you using? Does this happen with every patch, or just specific patches? I assume you do not hear the click when playing back recorded MIDI, right?

Being a trial, I am using the Rapture LE which is part of the download package. The problem occurs with all patches. Also, have just noticed that the "click" effect continues until the sound ends - its a "t-t-t-t-t-t-t- fading away. Obviously something amiss in the setup; there will probably be an option somewhere that's not been check marked.

The only time I've encountered anything like that has been a result of too-small buffers, e.g. switching to short latency to run Kontakt in standalone and forgetting to set it back to normal for DAW projects. For grins, try switching to MME and see if the click goes away.
