Can this be any good? - all seems too good to be true for only $50!!!!!! I was considering getting the updated Scuffham product. I don't think I want both and I'm not really too interested in the jamming part, so which to get?? Any thoughts? Nigel

I like the look of this. I gather this can be used like any other guitar plug-in? Looks a steal at that price if that's the case. I wouldn't use the jamming side of it so I'm keen to know about its other attributes.

Scuffham has fantastic tone. Sure it's basic but it's free updates for a year and it's getting slowly bigger. In the end though, you want 'real amp' sound and it does that brilliantly.

Jam Vox III (just the AmpSim section), functions like any other VST AmpSim. I spent a little bit of time with it today... Think it sounds pretty decent. Based on that short trial... I think Scuffham has slightly more realistic feel/tone. Need to spend a more time with Jam Vox III.

Tried it out and found it was pretty cool for isolating guitar parts and seemed better suited at removing vocals than guitar parts but was pretty impressive at both. Haven't tried the guitar sounds. Something was installed that caused Sonar to lose connection to my ilocks. On restart there was some start-up entries that I had to disable to get everything back up and running. $50.00 nice price but I have an abundance of software amps. Interesting features on this one but I will be passing on this I think. Edit: I tried it again with the same results, this time I tried an ilock protected stand alone and had the same error. I get my ilocks back on line after a restart, but something there in the demo doesn't play nice with the ilock driver in my case. Interesting software I'm sure will grow even better in time. In my case, uninstalled, no need for more software that I rarely use.

Thanks for mentioning the iLok issue. Don't have much time to troubleshoot that stuff so I think I'll let them fix it before I try it.

LANEY Just got the scuffham! I think you will love Scuffham-it is fantastic for what it is designed to be. Nice overdriven tube tone that still has transparency. Enjoy!

Can't go wrong w/ Scuffham. I bought it while we were in Russia, so I could only test it w/ my LP Junior and little monitors. Even then I thought it sounded amazing. I had a couple of hours to play my old strat in the home studio this week. I tried a few different things, from my POD to POD Farm and all the others I own. Nothing I own touches Scuffham, as far as I'm concerned. Others may be better for certain things and can usually sit right in the context of a mix, but when it comes to playing guitar using an amp sim, S-Gear it is.

Jim Roseberry Jam Vox III (just the AmpSim section), functions like any other VST AmpSim. I spent a little bit of time with it today... Think it sounds pretty decent. Based on that short trial... I think Scuffham has slightly more realistic feel/tone. Need to spend a more time with Jam Vox III. Jim (and others also): Do you think that they have gotten the vox sound/tone "down" for their AC30 and AC15 combos? I find that most of the other amp sims just don't faithfully nail the Vox tone. I have GR4, Ampitude 3.7.?, Pod Farm, and of course Scuffham (which doesn't claim to model the Vox); these amp sims get many Fender, Marshall and Messa Boogie amps pretty close, but they all seem to fall a little short when it comes to the vintage Vox tone. I absolutely love Scuffham and it is my go to amp sim; it sounds great, but I am always looking for an amp sim that does that Vox tone. Since Jam Vox III is made by Vox, I would think they would come closer to nailing down their own amps. BTW, I am not interested in using it for removing a guitar track, but rather just as an amp sim. What do you think here? I am sure you know that vintage Vox AC-30 tone.

My Guitar Rig 5 does Vox better IMO BUT the absolute best Vox model I've heard is the Zoom G3.

Rain Thanks for mentioning the iLok issue. Don't have much time to troubleshoot that stuff so I think I'll let them fix it before I try it. No problem Rain, glad I had a chance to try this out. I briefly tried out a few emulations before uninstalling. Doesn't sound bad for the most part but IMO Amplatube 3 and GR4 emulations of the Vox were a tad better. My favorite Vox tone I have now is in my Johnson Millennium amp followed closely by TC Thirty I've been a Vox tone fan as long as I can remember. My first name brand amp was an old ugly Vox I picked up at a flea market when I was a lad. Here's hoping they get it together in the future and are able to provide a world class emulation of their own amps.

I downloaded the demo and tried it out last night. I was not really impressed. They did not get the Fender's right at all, nor the high gain models. This might be expected as they possible would want their own Vox models to outshine the others, but the AC 15 is bland if not dull in tone as is the AC30. Their AC30 TopBoost is okay but not impressive. What did surprise me was their Marshall Blues and Plexi emulations; they sounded nice and I might actually use those two down the road. The other component that I kept coming back to was their Vox AD412 cab; I actually liked the round tone that still had some clarity that this cab produced with several of their heads. I have no idea what the real AD412's sounded like, but this one was interesting. Again the two lower wattage Marshall's were usable, but I could easily find better in Amplitube or GR. BTW, I think Amplitube has got the Fenders down, and GR does great with the higher gain models. But this is just what I like for my vintage ears, not what others who actually use these metal monsters would prefer. I will demo JamVoxIII a little more if only because the $49.99 price is attractive. I really wish some one would nail down these AC30 AC15 amps. Until some company gets these clean OD/bluesy tube amps better modeled, I will still be happy using Scuffham Amp Sim as my goto boutique in a box amp. Love my Duke and that Jackal ain't bad at all.

I bought JamVOX and now I think I shouldn't have. I did read the note that it requires online registration, but I didn't think it means you only can register it if the computer it's installed in is online. My music PC isn't. There seems to be no reasonably fluent way I can find to contact them. The registration also requires signing up in the site, but the product code I received isn't accepted, and I can't find any route to ask for details. There's no link or e-mail address or even a hint given for support. I don't have the energy to start writing letters. The "Support>Product registration"-page only means hardware in UK or USA. The worldwide distributor list doesn't help either. For Finland it gives a company in Sweden, not even an e-mail adress. So, at this point I assume I have lost my money. I don't think I have energy to start a months lasting struggle to get a response from them. If they've taken such a good care of hiding their contact routes, I don't think I have much hope. S**t happens. EDIT: I'll never say a bad word about CW forum software again. That VOX site is worse than the worst english plumbing ever. Now I know I've lost my money. I tried to find a contact route by installing JamVOX on my laptop, and registering it there in hope of being able to transfer that registration somehow to my music PC or at least find a way of sending a query to VOX. They've protected themselves as well as a mailbox company somewhere in the pacific islands - unreachable. VERY IRRITATING! Really, think about it! A registered buyer with no means of getting in any kind of e-mail contact with the support (that I'm able to find). The site of the Finnish "retailer" is zero. They don't have any VOX software listed, and it's 100% sure they don't have anything to do with the registration of downloads.

Sorry to hear that Kalle. If you have a Facebook account, maybe you could try to reach them there? I've had good luck getting replies to my questions (from other companies) via FB.

If they are as stiff as the whole site makes me think, the above link is only for US consumers, and the wording "technical support" means most likely it's hardware only, like the british e-mail support form. Thanks!
