Unlikley Covers

Browsing Pete Sinfield's web site I spotted this. About a third of the way down this page.

A dance floor version of (King Crimson song) "Prince Rupert Awakes" by Hans Annelsson. There is a link to a real player version and the album on CD Baby  which covers some Yes songs among others.

Intel i7 3770K @4.4GHz, 32GB RAM, 240GB SSD System disk, 2 x 2TB and 1 x 1TB (with SSD Cache) HDD. Windows 10,  Sonar Platinum. Roland Quad Capture.

Paul Anka made a whole album of unlikely swing big band covers - Smells Like Teen Spirit- Nirvana, Lovecats-The Cure and many more.

    Hawkwind Gimme Shelter http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yLipryZKCgk

I never liked it either, and the rest of the album is an absolute fantastic mix of ambient and psychedelic rock that most Hawkwind fans do not enjoy. In fact, this album and the one prior to it (Electric Tepee) are my two favorite Hawwind albums, but they are an incredible assault on "psychedelic" and "ambient" that most people can not handle at all.

This song, was later explained to me, was done by the kid that sings, and was a song that Hawkwind has done in many festivals and the proceeds from are a donation for some cause or other, having to do with homeless I think, for which this was a theme of sorts. Don't quote me on it, but it is something like it. For me, however, this song brought down the level and attitude on the album for me, and kinda stopped the tripping that you can go through in the entire album!

    Hi,

There are some covers, that for me, are strange ... I like Tangerine Dream and know that Edgar Froese likes guitar and he likes to just fly off on it, and he doesn't care where it takes him ... but seeing TD doing Purple Haze is strange, and stranger yet? ... he's not the one playing the guitar!

Stackridge did a version of Hold Me Tight as reggae kind of thing and it was neat and different and strange at the same time. I kinda ended up liking it better than the original.

The Ides of March - had a hit single called "Vehicle" in America and the album was better and also had an outstanding version of Eleanor Rigby. With horns and all that.

Esperanto - On their third and last album (I think it was) they had an interesting and bizarre version of Eleanor Rigby where the voice singing sound really ****y ... and made the song sound mean and strange!

Monsoon - Band from India that had an interesting version of "It's a Northern Song" ... unffortunately the backwards version by the originals was a lot better than the Hindu's doing a western song!

The Clams - Group from LA that was best known for having done a gay satire of "Close to You" by the Carpenters. It was funny, too! I think that only two people ever played this on the radio!

I liked when Andy Rooney (on 60 Minutes) would cover songs like Love To Love You Baby by Donna Summers as a poem.

I always thought Judas Priests metal version of Joan Baez's "Diamond and Rust" was a complete (but awesome) departure from the folk original.

    Hi,

Hmmmm I have to check out that one by Acid Mothers ... they are a bit too much thrashing for my tastes ... but they sure can rip it!
