Suddenly--NO SOUND!

My sound was working wonderfully until this morning.

Then a computer freeze occurred and when I rebooted there was no sound from my UA-4fx!

I fixed that and got sound from various internet sites.

However, fired up X1 and for some reason--NO SOUND. It rejects my UA-4fx and any other drivers I select. Says they're silent on some screens.

iTunes still works and YouTube sounds too--through the UA-4fx, but not through X1!

When I try to activate the UA-4fx I get this message: The following driver(s) either do not support the current audio format or are in use by another application. Please choose whether you want to disable them or use them anyway.

What the heck is goin' on???

The UA-4fx seems to be working fine, but Sonar X1 is freaking out. Ugh.

Thanks.

If Sonar was set up for ASIO it is possible you may have to reset it. Soundcard may be working in WDM mode but not ASIO.

I've always had it set to WDM with the UA-4fx. I have Sonar set to WDM.

Just looked that UA-4fx up and it has ASIO support. I'm no expert but I think you will have much better results using the ASIO driver in Sonar.
If you have windows automatic updates set to update drivers automatically, perhaps a recent update caused your grief? If you think that's possible a driver roll back may resolve the issue.
Best rule of thumb I found is to use the most recent driver from the mfg. website. JMO

Just to establish the basics..... Can you see the drivers listed in Preferences-->Audio--->Devices and are they selected there?

Check that and also that the correct mode is selected in Preferences-->Audio--->Playback & Recording - ASIO or WDM is up to you, usually one set for a device will work better than the other but that depends on the device.

Final thing is to make sure that the tracks/busses are routed to your master buss and that the master buss out is set to your main outs.

If a device goes AWOL Sonar will reset your outs and that may not be where you want them set to.

Yeah, I have the latest drivers--and like I said, it works well with everything else. However, I switched to ASIO, and it works Sonar--so far. It just bugs me that it was working with WDM and now it's not.
    Anyway--it's working with ASIO--for now.
    Thanks.

Yes, I can see the preferences--it lists my UA-4fx.

It was set to WDM and that's what's not working now. The specs for the card say that it should work with WDM. I switched to ASIO and now it works.

I'm not sure about what you mean by "outs." When the UA-4fx is not read in the first place, the master disappears! It says it's "silent."

It's working with ASIO now, but I just don't want a thing like this to happen again--IF I can avoid it.

    Thanks.

For future reference then...... Your master buss has a drop down selector marked "O" that you can use to select your outputs from. When a driver crashes that probably gets set to "None" hence you get silence and the warning.

Once the driver has reloaded at boot time you may then need to reassign the master output to your interface outs. Until you do that playback audio is literally going nowhere hence you can't hear it.
