By The Sea by Starise

A meditative piece I recently wrote called " By The Sea". The guitar is JTV variax version 1.8 firmware acoustic martin. The flute is from the Kirk hunter strings Kontakt program. No sequencing or midi. Mastered with Ozone 5.

 Hope you enjoy it! http://soundcloud.com/starise/by-the-sea

Um... well... it sounds like two songs played over each other. Two rather unrelated songs. This just does not work for me on any level I am sorry to say.

The JTV 1.8 sounds good. I'll be using mine today for the first time since I upgraded.

The piece did not grab me, sorry to say. But A+ for effort Tim.

Tim, this is pretty good for just performing it without enhancements.  However, right off the bat, the guitar felt a little awkward, rhythm wise.  It might come together more smoothly if the guitar track was smoother.  The flute track sounded natural enough, but overall, the two parts just didn't seem to interlock.  I love the Variax.

    All the best,

That flute sounds nice.  What do mean no sequencing or midi?  How did you play it?

Have to agree with the other comments I'm afraid. the individual parts sound good, but don't really gel together. I'm also intrigued to know how you played a flute sample in Kontakt without using midi ?

Foxwolfen- Thanks for your comment. Bapu- Hope you like the 1.8 upgrade. I love the new acoustics in it! Thats ok I appreciate your honest appraisal of the music. Lynn- The song was intended to be two separate parts that come together. I guess maybe some further balancing is needed or a few changes to the parts to make things better in that regard. Thanks! Janet- I should have just said I didn't sequence the song, that's what I meant by no midi.Obviously I used midi input for the flute in Kontakt.I made no midi corrections of any kind. Thanks! I seem to have some kind of a dual approach to writing and listening. My mind must be tying more together than what many listeners hear.I found a kind of resolution between the two parts.Maybe thats just a lack of something on my part.

the guitar had an almost African rhythmic feel... if it were mine, I'd start over with a percussion track... instruments sound good to me...

I actually think this works in the way it is intended. Yes its unpredictable, almost like a 'jam' between two musicians but i like the contradictory nature of this piece

I agree with bibs - I though it had a native american feel to it - very free form. Cool

I'm in agreement with Frank, there's a little 'township' feel about this. I understand what the others mean about a certain disconnection between the parts - I think that's because there's no repeated melody on  the flute which would tie in with a guitar part The flute is really just 'doing it's own thing'..which is fine if that's what you intended.
