How to fix "Current pitch cannot be played on this string"

I have a MIDI bass part where the G2 note is not playing when using the SI-Bass Guitar soft-synth.  Everything from C3 and higher plays in the part. Anything below C3 does not.  Depending on the preset sometimes I get string noise.

I will say that a G2 note is a VALID bass guitar note.  I click the properties for the G2 note in staff view I see that the string is 0.  If I change this to 1 and back to 0 and click OK I get the message "Current pitch cannot be played on this string."  ?!?!?!?

What is the problem?

Thanks,
John

Thats normal. Not all presets play all MIDI notes.

Many synths react in a similar manner.

Several I have will only play the instrument selected in the normal range for that instrument. Outside of that range the notes either are not sounded or as you pointed out perhaps there is some instrument noise that is available.

With presets, like CJ mentioned, not all notes play all the time.

After comparing pitches from the SI-Bass to the staff pitch I found transposing the bass MIDI track up one octave solved the problem.

    Thanks,
