soft synth for metronome

I would like to use a midi note for my metronome. This has always worked just fine when I had Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth as a MIDI output choice. For some reason the Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth is gone and will not even show up when I select the MME driver. What is weird is the Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth used to always be there as MIDI output no matter what audio driver I chose. My question is is there any way that I can either get Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth back as an option without using the MME or better yet is there a way to use the metronome to drive a soft synth?

Why not use a soft synth to play a drum sound?

That is what I used to do.  Insert a drum synth and use PRV or Staff to insert 4 quarter notes and do a copy and paste or drag it out as far as needed.

Besides that, it's easier to hear and sounds better too.
