Hi Daryl, thanks for the comments. I agree on the quality of the horns. New York Brass did great. The trick was to make the clips work in the song. I got very lucky with it. Rimshot

Rimshot BIABDude - thanks much. bandontherun19 - Funny thing is I did not quantise any of the parts for this! I did tweek alot but maybe my right hand is planning mutiny with the left and feet! LOL. Rimshot All of us fake drummers are jealous of you real drummers... You and your "hands" and your "feet" you think you are so coordinated! You don't know what it feels like to be Steve Martin in the Jerk? Trying to keep time on the porch? You'll never know what that feels like? The humiliation? You coordinated people make me sick!

I took a second listen and am amazed I am the only one hearing this. The bass is indeed very boomy and really fatiguing here. Bordering on unpleasant. Maybe its the combo of the mix and my monitoring setup, I don't know.

The bass guitar? Or the bass drum? Or the bass "in genneral?" Cause, I commented on the bass drum early on.

I think it could be both because from here it does sound boomy on both .. like the track however....

foxwolfen bandontherun19 triumph 1 I remixed the song tonight and hope I nailed the bass and kick. See my first thread for changes. Thanks for your comments. I think it turned out better. foxwolfen - fatiging is a funny word. It can be taken may ways. I have never heard that expression used for a bass part but I think I fixed that. bandontherun19 - sorry that drummers bumb you out LOL. I feel the same frustration about lead guitar playing but I'm working hard on it. My fingers just won't go fast enough for what I want them to do! triump 1: thanks for the comments. Tell me what you think of the new mix if you can run through it one more time. I really appreciate the help. Rimshot

Ok since this seems popular, I'd better chime in. Of course I've been out of action for a week or two!! Well I'm impressed, SD3 drum samples triggered with a electronic kit, sounds real to me. Great trumpet samples!! The mix and master still lacks an energy though, it is a really excellent song that has been exacuted well but it lacks fizz at the top end but that is just my opinion. Neb

Fatiguing in the physical sense. There are certain frequencies, particularly in the mid to upper "lows" that have to be carefully mastered or they become physically tiring. I think the principle was established with the RIAA EQ standard. possibly before. It is a term that can be applied to hardware as much as the content. It might be that its hitting a "sweet spot" on my rig that is not a factor on others. I will take a listen to the new mix.

Really good. Full sounds, mood and groove accomplished. Nothing mix wise strayed my attention from the actual song which is a plus, so if your happy with mix then thats it! Horns sounds perfect. Cian

Right on Cian! I hope this 3rd remix will do it. It is great to have good ears to run things by isn't it? I really like your last song/video - as I commented on your thread. Rimshot

Ben- thanks for the review. Shad - I appreciate your followup. I always associated fatigue with the high end but there is a first for everything that's for sure. I did the remix and hopefully tamed alot of the boom you were hearing. Thanks again for listening again. Rimshot

Radio - thank you. The kit was Session Drummer 3 played with my Roland pads. I did the mix on my new D5 speakers so I am very interested in how it sounds to you all. Lynn, thanks again. I just lost the reply I posted. I want to thank you for how well you comment on everyone's songs in the forum. Your good feedback and kindness is much appreciated. Jimmy

Hi Rimshot, Listened to this a few times over the last couple days, really like it (and the horns really sit well). It might be a touch boomy and open/roll-y in the kick and bass. I don't notice it on every system but on the Focals it does stand out...I don't know that I'd call it egregious though. I ran it through the SSL here to play with the EQ a bit and try and figure out which frequencies were problematic for me, but it's tough to do on the full stereo mix without killing things you don't want to kill. You might try working with 60Hz/120Hz (kick boomyness) and 250(ish)Hz (some tubbiness in the bass git and kick). Again, to my ears it's not terribly egregious, it kinda sounds like a choice not a mistake, so I don't know that you need to fix it at all. Again, really really like it. Nice work. Dean

Hi Dean. Thank you so much for the analysis! I appreciate that and now can check those frequencies against my system's EQ analyst. I thought I had tamed the boom at those freq but maybe not enough. I want to learn my new speakers and without this kind of specific feedback, it will take me a much longer time. I also appreciate your kind words about the song. Thanks again for taking the time. Cool deal Rimshot. I am listening on a laptop right now so I have no mix crits, but all elements seem there and in the right places. Horns do sound nice nd the performance sounds good all around. Nice arrangment bud.
