Cannot set a volume envelope or change volume

Hi, Just upgraded from 8.5.3 to X1 and cannot see how to create a volume envelope on a track. Plus on existing material with envelopes, I can't add nodes, change the vol envelope level etc.. the "smart" tool seems to do nothing but want to move the track location? What amazingly simple things am I overlooking?? Thanks in advance, Jack.

    You need to set the edit filter. Here's one of my videos explaining it in more detail
