Here's a depressing article to read if you want to make a career out of composing music for a living....

The space you have will always be exceeded in direct proportion to the amount of stuff you have...Thornton's Postulate.

This article  could  be viewed as a kind of reverse psychology. *You don't want to eat at that restaraunt, there's too many people there.lol*

I'm sure most of it is true, but it won't stop the go getters. The percentages as dismal for sure.

Yeah... I pretty much ignore all that stuff.  Since I don't live in LA, much of that is darn near impossible anyway.

I write, submit, forget, write, submit, forget, write, submit, forget..... and keep repeating it, and let the chips fall where they may. If I get a cut, that's cool, if not, I enjoy what I do so I keep doing it.

I do the exact same thing only I completely leave out the *submit* part. I just write,forget,write,forget....

I did have a guy ask me about using some of my music though. I almost fell off my chair.

most times, if it's not a scam to get money out of you, they want it for free.  To get paid now days is a rare and exciting thing.

    Hi,

I like it when stuff like this comes out.

Written by people that are paid too much, and want to steal as much as they possibly can, and make sure that no one steals their "jobs" -- and it's not even clear that they have the "talent" to be able to get the job over everyone else.

There is an issue in Hollywood and other places. For example, in a film production I got the job because of my SAG card. A whole bunch of other actors, that could have also gotten parts were not selected because they did not have the card. And you can't get one without a sponsor -- which a film producer or director usually can be!

All in all ... screw them!

You need to learn to make your own film and your own everything. I know that the CHB (or Bapu, who knows) did not appreciate the "visual" and the "idea' ... but in the end, all it did was hurt the inspiration to help make it more important and valuable. I probably would have gone rent a camera and shot that and made a slight vide off it ... but once it is ruled out ... the little light inside our head goes off ... and when that does, you have killed the inspiration that helps define a whole scene, a whole band, and a whole artistic group ... but that's when you know the folks involved are not interested in any more than what they already did!

It would have been a treat to film that and I wanted to ... but I guess that this is all too much about Sonar and the files going back and forth and nothing else matters ... is all you can see.

You kinda have to do what Loretta Lynn did, and it was on the movie ... "we don't know radio, loretta! I don't care. They will know us!" ... and the rest is history.

These muthers are simply protecting their ground and making sure no one else is gonna get there ... but it also tells you that the academic world is really screwed up right now in trying to tell folks they are gonna be a star ... and this was happening at UCSB when I was there (78-82) to the point of sleeping with the professor for many of the girls, for a "chance" to get a cattle call audition at the end of the year that no one listens to or gives a damn about, that 4k college students think is a chance to "make it".

You think it's any better in music? You're wrong!

But there is a thing called "internet" now ... and you can show off your music with it. You can not do that with acting ... and there are more actors out of work, than there are musicians ... you, at least, can get a nice cozy (though possibly not lucrative) gig at the Red Lion with a band of your own if you can play top 25. And considering how easy it is to do this today with pre-fab music and beats ... the rest is easy!

So stop complaining. You either give it a shot, or go home and get yourself a girlfriend and call it a night creatively!

You make it on your own merit ... not anyone else's! But all these folks are doing is making sure you "pay your dues" so we can make sure that you get these jobs. The Internet Movie Database does the same thing, by always listing its "listings of members" before any others! Because you paid for it!

As a wise Guy once stated from his holy chapala ... none of the hits, none of the time ... prevents you from becoming just another turkey in the middle of all the other turkeys!
