Sidechaining with Fabfilter Pro-C, Strange Stereo Vs. Mono Issue
Ok, so I primarily work using mono channels and recently I have started working with Fabfilter-C mono (SC) which is the mono version of the plugin which supports external sidechaining. For some reason, Sonar cannot see the sidechain input of the mono plugin, but if I switch to Fabfilter-C (stereo) Sonar has no trouble and the plugin shows in my send to options. I can reproduce this everytime. It is ok that I have to use a stereo instance of Fabfilter instead of the mono one, but does anyone know what is going on? Can someone with the Fabfilter compressor please try to reproduce this? I have double-checked and the interleave option is off on the channel I am trying to sidechain.

I've put the stereo instance on a mono track, if you load one of the Fab presets that's mid-side you'll get some weird results (well duh, its mid-side). Not sure on the side chaining issue with mono. I'll check that out next trip out to the studio. T

Ok, thanks for the replies, I will continue to put the stereo compressor on the mono track. Just seems to be the wrong thing to do, but it works! thanks!

Click on the "Expert" button, then on the "Ext" button under "SIDE CHAIN" Edit: oops, spoke too soon. I just tried the above and still couldn't see the SC input in the Insert Send popup menu. I'm pretty sure that's what I've done in the past, but I must have been using the stereo version. Edit 2: that's weird. I inserted the stereo SC plugin and it didn't show up, either, until I deleted several instances of SPAN. It would appear that there is a maximum number of routing destinations that can be listed in the context menu. This is not your problem, but I thought it was worth mentioning. BTW, using a stereo compressor on a mono track can sometimes cause a weird separation of left and right transients. I've observed this with Pro-C as well as some other compressors. It's like there's a very short delay between left and right channels. It isn't always an unpleasant effect, though.

A google search turned up no mention of this problem. I think this is one for the CW folks to look at. Phonic, have you opened a support request?

Bitflipper, no I haven't opened a support request, but I will do that shortly. Thanks for the input, I am glad I am not the only one seeing this.

I have just submitted a report to Cakewalk. If I get any updates I will add them to this thread.

volcano2 also behaves the same (but it's also fabfilter)... i had a quick browse in my vsts for more mono-with-sc, but i can't find any (anyone know any others?)... some stereo-sc plugs work as expected (voxengo, wavearts do, but klanghelm doesn't show as a send at all - i.e., those working show up in the sends destination dropdown)... all versions work as expected in another host... i wonder if sonar's mono tracks are really mono-stereo tracks in some way? like, only using 1 of the 2 channels of a stereo track or something(c.f., simple instrument tracks) [/speculation]
