No right channel output
Hi When I play back from Sonar through my HDSP9652 into my Yamaha 02R console I am only getting the left channel. Everything appears normal, the master is routed to ADAT 1-2 but nothing works (I tried 3-4, etc.). All my tracks are mono. If I pan a track to the right I get no signal. Any ideas? Keith

Right click on the Track, Convert to Mono. Does it give you that option, if so try it and see if it fixes your prob

Initially when I didn't know anything, ie 4 hours ago, I recorded a combo of mono and stereo tracks like ADAT 1L, ADAT 1R, ADAT 1stereo. That was wrong so I did it again excluding the stereo input and that worked - everything mono. I'm away from the DAW but I do believe it has the convert to mono option but why would I need to do that if it's in mono already? thanks Mike. I believe if you record just one side of a stereo channel, you wont be able to pan and it will only play out that particular side. Your welcome, Happy ya found it

I do believe it has the convert to mono option but why would I need to do that if it's in mono already? If it's a mono instrument in a stereo track and only one side is playing, converting the stereo track to mono will make the sound come out both sides. You're not converting the instrument, you're converting the track.

Aren't they all stereo channels, it's just what signal you choose to input - stereo, mono L or mono R? My tracks as they appear in the waveform are all mono. Each track meter shows 2 identical levels of 1 mono signal. I know I'm missing the obvious and I apologize, but I did record each track either ADAT L or ADAT R. I understand that a mono signal is always left in stereo. I did record stereo channels but I still only had a one channel output from my card (hdsp9562). Also, I have been an AVID editor in tv for many years so I'm used to mixing and outputting in mono and stereo but this is a whole new way of thinking and I'm having troubles picking it up. Thanks Mike and Greg Keith

To keep it simple its as Greg is saying- You cant pan just a left or a right channel from a stereo track-it has to be a mono track. The effect you will have if you dont is just a raising or lowering of the volume as you try to pan if its not mono when you do pan it, make sense? As you PAN a left channel stereo track to the right, its gain will decrease sounding like you are lowering the volume without any panning happening.

So how do I create a mono track? I know you can do it in protools, etc. But I don't see that option in Sonar. When I select Insert Track there are no other options than a stereo track. Thanks, Keith

Click on the Track No#, Then Right Click on it. The option should be there to Convert to Mono

Sounds to me like you are saying convert to mono before recording. That makes so much sense. I will be home soon to try it out. Thanks again, Mike Keith
