UA-25ex not showing up in MIDI devices

Hi Folks

Not been here for a while, so I hope everyone is good?

I recently had a system crash and had to reinstall Win 7 again. Anyway, I'm back up and running and wanted to continue working on a piano piece that I had recorded prior to the crash. This is when I ran into a midi issue.

I'm using my Yamaha YPT-200 into my Cakewalk UA-25ex and True Pianos. It was working before, but for some reason the UA-25ex is not showing up in the MIDI Inputs and Output tabs ...

I remember tweaking something on the Yamaha when I first got it - InitSend but it doesn't seem to have done the trick.

I'm using ASIO4ALL v2.11 Beta 1 also.

Any ideas?

Don't use ASIO4ALL. Use the Cakewalk drivers for the UA-25EX.

Apparently Windows is not picking up your UA-25EX so you need to re-install the drivers for it.

One question ... I've switched to WDM/KS drivers but now get a lot of dropouts which never happened with ASIO4ALL.

I was running 41 tracks with effects, EQ, buses with no issue but on 17 tracks its struggling.

    Any hints here?

Be sure to use the UA-25 drivers and enable the advanced driver switch on the UA-25. That should give the best results, at least it did for me when I used that interface. It's a USB 1.1 device so don't try it on a USB 3 port.

Dont use WDM driver mode. Instead use asio and set buffers appropriately in asio control panel.

    Hi,
how I can use the ASIO driver mode without using the ASIO4ALL drivers?
Because when I switch to ASIO mode, Sonar sets me ASIO4ALL drivers in automatic.
I have the same audio card (UA-25EX).
    Thanks.

You should also have UA-25 Asio drivers. If not, download the latest drivers from the roland site. You should see the ASIO native drivers. You could also uninstall asio4all...

I wondered this too, because in my Drivers option I only have one ASIO driver which then sets it to ASIO4ALL - I have nothing else.

So if I uninstall ASIO4ALL this should use the UA25ex drivers?

I downloaded the latest drivers from the Roland website.

You must remove ASIO4all,when using an audio interface with its own ASIO drivers....ALWAYS.

Uninstall ASIO4ALL. BTW: ASIO4ALL is not even an ASIO driver. Its really a WDM driver disguising itself as an ASIO driver. You should only use ASIO4ALL if you are using a built-in soundchip on the motherboard that doesn't have its own ASIO driver.

Uninstalled both ASIO4ALL and UA-25EX drivers and cleaned the registry with CCleaner.
Installed again UA-25EX drivers only, but ASIO driver mode in X1 don't works: it's completely mute!
After this, I have had to reinstall ASIO4ALL again, and finally ASIO mode works again.

I have to think about two options:
    - my soundcard hasn't native ASIO drivers (?);
    - X1 can't see the ASIO dedicated drivers of my soundcard, because in FL Studio I can see an "ASIO Panel" (maybe interlaced with ASIO4ALL? Honestly I don't have thought about this when I've installed UA-25EX only as first -_-) when I chose the UA-25EX drivers, so strange!

However, thanks for your responses .

However, thanks for your responses .

There must be something else wrong,as I use THAT interface with surprising success, and stability,on my desktop[listed below],but the lowest latency with 24/48 is 11.6 ms,any lower and dropouts, and crackles, but keep  it at 11.6,and it's a solid little unit, that records guitar from my Marshall amp, just fine.

With my i7 XPS laptop though, the BEST it could do was 25+ ms,24bit 48KHz,and so I bought my desktop, instead of an RME FF UC interface[same price]and I DO use ASIO4all on the laptop,as it works good as a "wrapper" for the WDM driver, and RTLatency is as low as 5ms.

But for the UA ASIO driver to work, you MUST check all the switches on the back are correct, and device manager shows your USB controllers/ports are all working.

You must totally de-select your on board sound card, and NOT have any USB cables plugged in,and install the drivers[make sure ANY trace of ASIO4all is GONE,from your computer-[except for the .zip dwnload],also ASIO allows only ONE app at a time, for instance you can't use iTunes at the same time as Sonar, like you can[?] with the WDM protocol.

I find the UA was a breeze after I tried a TASCAM us600 that would NOT work at all,But the interstate salesman[who sold me the Tascam] insisted the UA was USB 2.0,it's not, it's only USB 1.1.

It could be that FL Studio is confusing Sonar, but lots of people have other Daws on their machines, but I can't help but notice nearly all the X1 haters.nearly always have Cubase on the same rig!

I don't know what else to suggest but perhaps your PC/Sonar,like my laptop, just doesn't get along with your UA?

    Regards
    Bob.

    Hi,
the switches on the back are all ok (44,1 sample rate, ground normal, advanced driver on) so I don't think there's a problem about this.
With FL Studio it works fine, really fine....but with Sonar it works decently only with ASIO4ALL drivers.
I've noted that this sometimes depends by the song that I'm playing (and all the VSTi on it), sometimes it works perfectly with WDM drivers but in other songs I must use ASIO4ALL.
I know that's a very good sounding soundcard because I've done a lot of surprising recordings with it.
