Destroyed my Sonar installation - any ideas?

I decided to install Z3ta yesterday, having not installed it originally with my X1 disks.  (I was inspired to do so by the sounds I heard on the recent webinar).

I got out my original disks and went through the install process, with ALL options deselected except for Z3ta.  When I'd finished and launched Sonar it asked for my registration code, the one for my original version of X1.  I keyed it in and it didn't like it.  I went to my store account and copied and pasted it from there.  Still no joy.  I emailed support yesterday but I haven't heard back yet, but I need to do some work.

Has anyone any idea how to proceed from here?  I know the nuclear option is to uninstall the whole lot and reinstall from scratch, but I don't want to do that as I can't open Sonar to take screen shots of all my Prefs. settings.

John, are you absolutely sure you're using the code for Expanded?

    Hi
No, it's asking me for the reg. code that relates to the serial number associated with my original (disks) installation from Feb 2011, and it won't accept that, even though that's what's logged in my store account.   I did try my code for Expanded but it obviously didn't like that as it was tied to a different serial number.  What I nightmare!

Provided you're careful about what you delete, Sonar will remember your Preference settings, even when doing a complete reinstall.

wierd thing, John - you say you tried copy and pasting from your store account. I had trouble with that once and tried typing it rather than copy and pasting and it worked.

Yes, Daryl, I just tried it again - typed and copy/pasted.  I sent the support request in yesterday so I'll give it one more day and then....zap.

I did something similar the other day,as the sfz files for S.I. String Section vanished.

What I did was exactly what you did except, when,it goes to open when it finishes installing, dont!

Instead, click finish, with the "read me/start X1" UN ticked, then open as per normal and it shouldn't ask you for anything.

Also I used my X1 studio disc,as it was, what I used before and just changed the destinations to Producer every time I spotted "Studio".

Its like a complete reinstall, you dont open X1A or anything, until youv'e installed the updates[X1C-X1d] THEN open and use the X1D expanded reg code.......thats the way I 've had to re-install in the last 2 weeks on my laptop,I hope it helps.

Did you log in as administrator before putting your registration code?

Copy and Paste,NEVER works with Reg. Codes for me,I must always type in manually.....always.

Serial No's.,will sometimes[and only sometimes] work with copy/paste,but NEVER with Reg. Code's.

    Thanks for the suggestions, guys.

I tried them all but still had no joy.  So I uninstalled and reinstalled.  Thank goodness uninstall doesn't mean what it says - everything that's variable (Prefs, instrument definiitions, etc) seem to be all still present and correct!

As for Cakewalk Support, well, three days elapsed and still no response...

Glad to see you worked it out John. I was going to say that uninstalling leaves all your preferences etc intact in some file somewhere so upon reinstalling it should be pretty much the same.

But you figured it out yourself

Have fun with z3ta+, it's a great synth!

Rolling back to the "Image" you burned BEFORE installing z3ta didn't work?

    Just sayin'...
For the benefit of those that DON'T burn an image every now and then; maybe its a good idea.

I sent in a request to Tech Support on 04/24 and received a confirmation email the same day - but I still haven't heard anything back from them.  Does anyone have an estimate of how long it usually takes to get a reply?

    Thanks,

    Hi Tom,

I did in fact do a backup of my C: drive to Acronis a few days before and I thought of restoring the relevant folders, but in my ignorance I didn't know which ones were relevant.  I thought Programs/Cakewalk, but then I wondered whether the Windows folder should also be restored, and my Users folder.  In the end I chickened out and went for the uninstall/reinstall of just Sonar.
As a matter of interest, if I didn't want to restore the whole of C: from Acronis, which folders could I have restored just to reinstate Sonar?

    John,
I use the built in Win 7 "Image" feature.
I burn the C drive only (and that litte 100mb "reserved" bit) and when necessary re-install.
The C drive is re-formatted (its a "quick" format) and then the image is installed.

I would think that replacing Program Files\Cakewalk would work, but you
might need the "User" stuff as well.

Where does Cake "store" the registration info? Anyone?
