Skips while recording

I have a laptop with SONAR 6 PE which I have used multipe times for mobile recording. I have a Mackie Blackbird audio interface and a Presonus Digimax as an interface.   Last night was recording my bands rehearsal, only recording 5 tracks and only using the blackbird. When I played back, i noticed it "skips" quite a bit. I played it several times to ensure that the skips were in the recording rather than the play back.  I have used this computer and the mackie together many times and never experienced this issue. I have never experienced this issue on my home setup either.

Anyone have any ideas what might cause this.

Have any changes been made to your computer since prior recordings that worked without skipping?  Has any software been loaded?  Are you running any real time virus scanning software or were OS patches applied?

Have you checked if your disk is defragmented?

You may also want to run DPC latency checker to determine if there's a process / serice introducing latency in your system.

    Hope that helps.

I will look at those items.  I may have loaded some software, so I am not sure.  I shut off the virus scan. no os patches have been made.

Run DPC latency checker - that should save you some time.  Also.. I assume you've disabled your wireless LAN.

A couple other points - how fast is your hard drive?  Laptops are notorious for having slow hard drives.  If you've loaded software and the hard drive has less free space, that may have tipped things over the breaking point from an I/O response time perspective.  But again, run DPC to help narrow things down.

open the raw WAVs in another audio editor to find the skips, to ensure that the skips are in the recorded audio rather than the play back

will try that.  I solo'd the tracks and played it multiple times and the skips are in exactly the same spot.   And all tracks skip in exactly the same spot.  I assumed they are in the recording. I will open another audio editor and repeat to make sure.

    You have -
all your Auto Updates OFF (OS, and all programs)
Power Options & Sleep mode set to do nothing
Are your settings the same for your interface as they are set for X1
How full is the hard drive your working from/saving to in %
You have shutdown AntiVirus when recording
