Rebuilt machine, tips for solving "missing" plugz?

So I'm reinstalling all my stuff on my new W7/64 machine and I notice plugs that I have reinstalled aren't recognized by SONAR when projects open. So, for example, my Cheeze Machine plugin is there, I can load it and play it, but a project that used it previously won't see it as the same plug.

I'm anticipating a lot of these problems but has anyone done this and have tips for minimizing the pain?

I'll assume the old machine was running on a 32 bit OS.

If the old plugs are 32 bit..... they need to be updated to 64 bit to work properly.  Assuming also that you jumped to 64 bit.... you didn't exactly say.

I kept all my software at 32 bits when I built a new DAW, even though it was capable of 64bit operation.

wouldnt it have been better to install the 64 bit plug ins as well?
you can install both, and by only installing 32 bit plug ins your limited to 4 gigs of ramdon memory.

Well you can bridge them and all that. For me the biggest prob is getting SONAR to recognize my duplicate plugin. My fear is that after replacing the synth or whatever that I'm going to lose patch settings.

My first experiments with replacing synths is not yielding promising results. SONAR captures preset settings but doesn't seem to hold on to them when replacing a synth. So, if you transfer a project or rebuild your DAW or otherwise upgrade a plug and SONAR doesn't recognize it, you may be screwed for any patch settings for that synth.

This has always been a weak spot I've felt, the lack of strong tools to capture and replicate patch settings. It means older projects can get totally lost for sounds, patches, more or less everything but the MIDI and audio.
