Sonar and Neyrinck?
Hi Gang... The ongoing search for "better" continues... I was very excited with the AC-7 Core iPad software for wi-fi control of Sonar... ...but I ended up not using it for it was missing two elents that are key for my needs... One being the clips view as I use it for visual cues in the vocal booth and the other being a return-to-zero command.... Very frustrating to stand there holding the rewinf key in-between takes... Then I heard about Neyrink's software, but was shy to look at it as it was not free.... and I'm worse than broke.... But I found V-Control Free in the app store and thought to give it a try as it seems to show the DAW's actual window.... then when I ran it I found that it needed another app to be running on the DAW.... I found that this morning and was just pleasantly surprised at how simple it was to connect.... Using the Mackie Control settings for it's controller.... It was up and working in a minute... Then I found the view procedure and have a almost full screen view of Sonar's live screen while tracking! Excellent! One of my obstacles overcome... But it seems there's still this other which both of these apps suffer from... Where is a return-to-zero button (W for us Sonar users)? Is this not available at all or is it only in the paid version? what are the benefits of the paid version? I can't afford it right now, but if they seem worth it to me a I will buy it in due course... Many thanks to anyone who has any answers or suggestions... and I heartily recommend this software so far. The metering is far more readable than AC-7 Core's very jittery display... and the view of the live Sonar window? Worth it's weight in gold for me! Happy Post supermoon to all! Keni

Sorry to hear that it's not working for you... Do you have any ethernet apps running to give you midi over lan? Sonar appeared on mine even before I installed Ney-Fi as I have rtpMIDI running for the AC-7 Core software... But it doidn't respond until after I selected the additional V-Control (and two V-Pan selections that I don't see mentioned anywhere)... Also, the mention some extra steps to use this software if you're trying to go peer-to-peer without a lan setup.... ? But now I'm finding that it will be of limited use for me as it is now... there is no record button! I was hoping to use it in my vocal booth... Right now I guess I can run it for the visuals and my old Peavey Studiomix to give me a record button and return to zero ability... I did find that using the play button in V-Control returns the play cursor to it's previous starting point, os that might work sometimes...? I'm guessing that these things are only offered in the paid version and I'm two months behind on my mortgage and electric etc. right now so none of this may matter to me in the next week or two... <sigh>... Best of luck to you.... Keni

Another thought... Did you install Apple Bonjour Printer? I''m not sure what it has to do with this stuff but it seems to be nevessary for all of these remote-DAW softwares under discussion... Keni

Jerry, as of a few days ago, Neyrinck has a support page. Go here: http://www.neyrinck.com/en/support/support-request/v-control-pro Keni, I programmed F8 as a Go To Start button. Works fine. Yes, I think you need to purchase the full version to see the Record function. I too started with AC-Core but have not touched it since buying V-Control Pro.

Hi riojazz... Thanks... I had a feeling they'd find some way to force the upgrade! ;-) ...and I will probably do that if my resources clear up... For right now, the excellent visuals are far better than the wireless camera broadcasting to to a tv screen in the booth.... Cheap camera... Hard to focus and a picture of a screen isn't as clear as a copy of the screen image, so using the free version for visuals and the Studiomix for transport controls will still be far better than what I've been living with with hope of getting better upon the upgrade purchase.... I know I'm missing something tho... You mention programming "FB" as a Go To Start button... I'm guessin that the paid version allows you to re-program the on-screen buttons? Will this return you to loop start as "W" does in Sonar? Thanks again... Keni

It's F8, not FB (as in 'Fast Biker'). When you program any of the function keys, there are a myriad of built-in functions from which to choose. I'll take a look later and see if I can program F7 to 'Go To the Now Time', or whatever equivalent they call that.

To program the function keys, in SONAR X1, go to the Utilities menu (at the top), select Mackie Control-1 from the dropdown. You will be able to set each of the function keys to a wide variety of settings. For example, I used Previous and Next Marker for F2/F3. I found out the Home button, under the Control Group in the Edit window of the V-Control, already goes to the start of the song. There is no need to program a function key for this. My mistake was not pressing it hard enough when I was testing all the buttons. However, be sure to write down what all the settings are before playing with them. There does not seem to be any reset to default values.

Cheers, Jerry Hey Jerry are you still haveing problems. I want you to go into MSCONFIG and make sure Bonjour has been clicked and running. This is perplexing me, something is interfering with the program. I've looked at DAW remote and it has not been designed with Sonar in mind are you using it?? And yes Keni, you have to buy the whole program to get all the features but at 50 bucks, whoo, it's worth it but 50 bucks. Ben

RioJazz, thanks I didn't know that. I'll see what they say (again). Ben, I can assure you I'm not a PC novice, I have set everything up per the Neyrinck website instructions and the scant help they gave. Bonjour is an automatic service on my PC, ie its always on. I need to take the time to look at the router side, see if something is blocking out there. BTW, if you use Codestuff Starter you to change services off/onh, you don't have to re-boot like you do once you've used MSCONFIG. Cheers, Jerry

Cheers, Jerry Hey Jerry. I saw your posts on the other site. I had the same issue as you and found that I had WI-Fi turned off on my PC. Once I turned it back on, my PC was in the list of computer choices. I checked it off and poof it started working. Sorry to hear you never got it working. Mike

Hi Mike, The thing is AC7 Core with rtpMidi works seamlessly. So I know Bonjour Service Works and the WI FI part of the router works. Just to be a pain, where did you turn Wi FI on - ion the control pannel ? Cheers, Jerry

I actually had it disabled in the Device Manager. I enabled it there and noticed my PC choose that over the Ethernet connection. I went into the network and sharing center and choose Local Area Connection instead of wireless. Mike

Ha, oops. Typed it out and never hit send. I've been reading through your thread on the other site and it seems as if it should be working. Wi-Fi on your DAW enabled, Ney-Fi installed and running on your DAW, Bonjour/same. Turn on V-Control, open Sonar, go to Preferences/MIDI/Controlers. The one thing I can think of is to delete the Mackie that you set up there already and re do it. Another thing to remember is that you have to run Ney-Fi before opening Sonar every time. It does not stay connected. Mike

Hi Mike, thanks for your input. The frustrating thing is AC7 (wi fi via rtpmidi) works perfectly. Maybe I'll stick with that. Its like Ney-Fi isn't making contact with the iPad. The Computer name reads "None". I tried with your version of Ney Fi, deleted ctrlsurface.dat and TTSSEQ.ini as per certain recommendations, but no joy. Cheers, Jerry
