Trying to lower all faders using grouping

I'm trying to lower all of my faders a little bit in Sonar X1 and I do not want to do this with the master fader.

I have selected all the tracks and when I right click over a fader I am able to assign all of the faders to the same group. When I move a fader to a louder volume all of the faders go up to a louder volume. However, when I move that same fader to a lower volume the other faders do not move down past their original positions.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks.

How about ctrl + click on the track number box at the bottom of the fader to select your tracks, then ctrl + drag any of the selected fader for all to move together.

Or if you do this often, create a bus and assign all required tracks to the bus, then just move the new bus fader.

FWIW grouped faders work in both directions on my setup. Is there any volume automation set up on any of the grouped tracks?

No there isn't any volume automation setup. I am using a MCU Pro.....maybe that has something to do with it. However, I did close Sonar and turn off the MCU Pro. When I restarted Sonar and moved the faders using the mouse I had the same results. Good to hear it is working with your setup.

Thanks for the suggestion. I will give this a try. Hopefully I wouldn't have to click on each track individually as there are about 35 of them. I just want to turn them all down a bit while keeping the basic mix I have and allow for more headroom.

I think you can ctrl + click drag if the track is one after another.

Thanks for your help everyone.

Your method worked perfectly tomixornot. Thank you.

I ended up selecting all of the tracks using the "Ctrl" and "A" key, and then used the "Ctrl" key and mouse to move the sliders.

Cheers.

I know you are sorted now but if you can't move the faders down past a certain point using regular grouping, it would suggest you have some sort of custom group set up.

It is possible to set up a group to behave how you describe but unlikely you would do that by accident. Have a look at your "Group manager" settings for that group, they may well be set to a custom set up designed to achieve the results you are seeing.

Resetting that group to "Absolute" should sort it out.

Thanks for posting that additional message since it made me go back to have another go at it. The group was already set to "Absolute", however, once I selected "Preserve Mix between Gain Members" it worked as I had wanted for louder and quieter volumes.

Cheers.

The only faders I group are the 2 faders on the soundcard output track.
I always want those two to move in tandem. I use them as my master volume control while tracking and mixing.

As far as grouping tracks.... no. I rarely do that. I found that grouping tracks and then using automation do not work well together. Instead, I simply opt to use envelopes for automating panning and levels.

If you take the time and care to do it right it works very well. It's easy enough to do similar/opposite  movements in multiple tracks

My output to the master bus was just a bit too loud so I just pulled all of the individual tracks down a little and then I turned off the grouping. Trying to keep the peaks to about -10 db while keeping the master faders at 0.
