Generic Sonar Forum Question...

Earlier today I did something stupid while running a commercial broadcast session at the downtown facility.  I apparently hit the F12 key instead of the F10 key...which was what I was trying to strike.  In any case, that put a series of transient markers across a music bed that I'd just placed under a voiceover track for a 30 second political spot.  I had no clue as to what key I had pressed or how to "unpress/undo" it.  Luckily it didn't affect me going ahead and producing out the spot but when it happened I posted a message to the Sonar X1 forum hoping some kind soul would hip me to what I did and how to "undo" it.  A few minutes after I posted I realized that I was working with studio A's Sonar 8.5 and NOT the X1d I use in my music production room.  So I put a PS on my post saying sorry this is in 8.5.  A few minutes after that Seth (rightly) moved my post to the 8.5 forum and notified me with an email.  And a few HOURS later Bitflipper...gawd bless his little pea pickin heart...correctly guessed what I'd done...told me...and didn't make me feel like the dumbass I was for doing it.  Thanks Bit, ol pal.

Here are my take aways from that experience:  First,  I should not have posted in the X1 forum and Seth was right to "move" me.  Second, after moving I was very lucky to have Bit "pass by" and provide me with an answer to my dimbulbed question.  Third, and maybe most important, why didn't Seth just answer my question when he notified me of the move...or even before it...or even after it??  Surely he knew the answer.  Or maybe he didn't...I'm not casting aspersions here...but if he didn't he could've just as easily said "gee Dog, I don't know...hope someone gets an answer for you".  Or words to that effect.  Instead of simply "your thread has been moved".  This is honestly a curiosity to me.  I don't mind being moved.  I posted in the wrong forum.  Although I will say my post went from being viewed by about 30 folks to about 2.  Maybe Seth...like me...honestly didn't know the answer.  If that's the case I'm sure he's just as appreciative of Bit as I am.

Just food for thought.

Ingest or not:-)

    Hi there yorolpal,

Interesting scenario. I'll reserve the majority of my comments with the following exceptions:

I'm really happy that you did finally receive help and things worked out well for you.

I would have expected that anyone from Cakewalk that would have went to the trouble of informing you your thread had been moved would at least have tried to give you some help or direction during the process.

Last but not Least, Thank God for members like Bit that come to the rescue when we truly need help. That's what make our forums so Great.

    Kind regards,
    Rick

Maybe when Seth is acting as the moderator he may not see it as his job to answer questions. That may seem a poor reason for not doing so but it may not even have occurred to him at the time. It could be that he may have been annoyed to have to move a thread.

    Mindset is a powerful thing.

At any rate it did work out for you and that is a good thing.

Why did he pick on your post anyway?  There are plenty of other recent non-X1 posts in this forum that never got moved.

I'm not an X1 user myself, but I find that there are sufficient posts here that are of interest to me, and not directly related to X1, to make it worthwhile visiting this forum daily.  If the moderators were on the ball about subject matter, then I would not bother looking.

Really the only reason I mentioned Seth was because he's the one who sent me the email notification of being moved.  It could've been any of the mods I'd guess.  This has puzzled me before with other folks threads.  It seems like it would be just as easy to answer a quick question and be done with it than to move the thread where it might languish without an answer for quite some time... Bit's not always around ya know:-)

No biggie though.  Just a puzzlement.

I tend to think it's merely a timing thing 'olpal.

The guys can't stay transfixed to the forums all day and every day so sometimes so pretty odious or irrelavent stuff stagnates for a few days and sometimes an innocuous post like yours will get whisked away in a trice because one of the mods just happens to be squirting the air freshener around at the time.

As for the question not being answered it was one of those issue that either just rings a bell in an instant or can leave you baffled for days.  I saw it and didn't get an 'aha' moment until Bit answered.

Trust me, if someone has their particular beady eye on you for some reason you'll know all about it and where it's coming from although not necessarily 'why'...

as cake's main public interface with users, i'd hope someone (intern if cash is tight?) is monitoring the forums daily... and i agree with seemingly random moving of threads, e.g., why hasn't the subwoofer thread been moved? i also think the "distinction" between x1 and pre-x1 in the forums is false and confusing considering how similar the products are... i feel like cake are pretending x1 is a different product...

That's a confirmation of what i thought first: Seth and Brandon are commercial guys, not technicians. As such, they can answer basic questions from newbie but might be scared answering a yorolpal question (after 7500+ posts he must have dig deeply in the software to find something he didn't know..). No, not scared, I mean, he simply doesn't know- I guess.

Sorry ol' Pal, and thank you Seth for moving the post.  I've spent a lot of time trying to figure out how to help someone here only to find out that they are having a problem with 8.5 or even SHS7.  Incidentally, the link in the post did let me read the problem that you posted and see the solution, so I think that Seth's 'foul' was pretty minor.  Besides, I owe him beers for the help he has given me (so supporing his position might reduce my bar tab with him).

...why didn't Seth just answer my question when he notified me of the move...or even before it...or even after it??  Surely he knew the answer.  Or maybe he didn't...I'm not casting aspersions here...but if he didn't he could've just as easily said "gee Dog, I don't know...hope someone gets an answer for you".  Or words to that effect.  Instead of simply "your thread has been moved".
I had a similar experience on eBay's forum.  I posted about a seller who seemed to be misleading about the item he was selling.  Replies to my post confirmed that he was indeed breaching the rules and ought to be reported.  Then suddenly the thread got deleted and I was sent an email informing me that eBay does not allow posts about item listings or member violations.  It also said "To report suspected violations, please use our online forms".  So I reported it using the online form as advised.  Two days later I receive a message saying that action is being taken against the offending user and thanking me for reporting the violation.

My immediate thought was similar to Yorolpal's, i.e. why couldn't the moderator who deleted my thread have simply copied the text from the thread and forwarded it to the investigation team rather than leaving it to me to fill in a form?

I think Seth was going through all the buttons on his laptop to see what you may have have pressed and just above F3 and F4 is the standby button and every time he pressed it the laptop shutdown. He may never get past F3.

If it's any consolation, I looked it up but Bit got their first.

The old forum ( we'll just call it 8.5= 99% of the users) at least 40% of the posts are about X1. They NEVER get moved. I think you might be on to something about how if you still use 8.5 we will just ignore you.. now, please upgrade or go away and leave us alone. I too though I'm not using X1 find lot's of topics here that are still relevant to the older versions. I pop by here because there is very little to do down one level from here. Look at the "Posted" times. They quickly become 1 day, not as bad as the Home studio forum but close now. Yes and thank god for Dave and a few others stopping by once in a while.I often send none software questions up here as they will be exposed to more traffic.
