Looking for some constructive feedback / new rock song.

Hi all...

I need some constructive mix advice on our new song, The Weight of Karma.

http://www.adrive.com/public/2RGyU6/Weight_Of_Karma_16_44.wav
I'm trying to push this thing over the finish line by weeks end and just need some other ears.

Play me loud if you can, it's a nice rock song.

Thanks in advance!!

    Hey David
Trying to listen but for some reason the link keeps timing out. Do you have anywhere else you could post it? Soundcloud maybe?

Sounds pretty good to me. the only thing that stuck out was the snare smack. I'd probably pull it down a few db's if it was me.... not a major issue.

I'd also crank the guitar solo a few db's so it stands out a bit better. I'm a guitarist and believe the guitar is never loud enough   but this does need to come up so it can shine like it needs to.

    see what others say.....

    Nice work.

Sounds great David (long time no see btw). Everything sounds spot on to me, except I might put a touch more ambience on the drums, they're just a little dry sounding against the rest. Excellent song though, fine vocal performance too. Is this still 'The Underhills'?

Hey James...yeah, unfortunately it's been 5 years since our last studio album, which in itself is somewhat embarrassing.  Life, I guess.  Things are moving now, so there's that I guess.

Totally agree that the drums sit in a different space than the rest, especially when compared to the vocals.  Thanks for the thoughts...

Good stuff David - as James says, the drums (especially the snare) are a bit dry. The quieter vocal sections in the verse get a bit lost - maybe a bit of automation or limiting on the lead vocal?

A lot of these suggestions seems to be pretty consistent with other thoughts.  I really appreciate the ears...thanks!!

Ooooh, interesting.  I actually was going to mix the vox back just a wee hair.  My room has a hole @ 800 hz big enough for my kid to fall into so sometimes the areas around there are tough with placement.  Thanks Daryl...

I'm listening on some crappy speakers (but that's not always a bad thing)

David - I just had another listen. Taking the snare down a hair will take care of the vocal in the rest of the song - it's just the vocal level in the first verse - all up until the 'tears that were shed' line

Sounded very good. The snare might be just a little loud but I read guitarhacker's post and he may have planted a seed.
