I need help please....

finding the material used in guitar/bass cases.
I don't know what it's called but I've exhausted searching using
plush, fabric, lining...etc.

Appreciate it up front.

I guess that be felt material?, extra soft and plush?

Sorry, my bad, that sounds like an advert for toilet paper.

    Velvet? That's what's in my '79 LP Standard's case.

The 2 cases I have here were velvet interior...

I got in trouble with the girl at the local haberdashery once.

I said 'I have just built a guitar case and I would like to get felt all over please'

It wasn't pretty what happened next.....

    Thank you guys!

I continued searching and found some using "velvet". I ordered a couple of yards
    to see.
I'm thinking it is not exactly what I'm looking for. I think "high pile" might get me there.
I will wait until I get the order as I may not need to keep looking.

In case your wondering (no pun intended) I'm planning on building a wall case.
I can thank McQ for getting me into this idea....with his wall-hanging thread.
I decided a case type on the wall would be my preference....maybe I'll find out. :)
    Went with gray.

Velveteen? (I think you get it from rabbits).

Seriously though, if I were you I would send an email to some small boutique case maker just to be sure that you don't use something that looks and sounds right but ends up buggering the finish on your guitar/bass, or perhaps ask the question on thegearpage dot com. You'll get an answer there or on the forum here: http://www.tdpri.com/

FWIW, I usually put me bass in a cooler.

I found this: when replacing the original liner, select new material that is nonabrasive. Some people choose to replace old liners with expensive materials such as velvet or silk. Carpeting, especially plush and shag varieties, also makes a suitable replacement liner for a guitar case.

    Fleece?

In order, then, to discover the limit of deepest tones, it is necessary not only to produce very violent agitations in the air but to give these the form of simple pendular vibrations. - Hermann von Helmholtz, predicting the role of the electric bassist in 1877.

Julien I sure won't use just anything.

I also found a place that is sending me a sample.

What I've learned so far (maybe) is that it's called crushed velvet.
I'm still vague about the pile or length..I don't know much about fabric terminology
but getting my order and the sample from another place should give me
a good start. I'm hoping it is the same material as in my 50th anniv. case...I feel it's
not but with fabrics in hand I can then call and talk with them. I'm really thinking there
is a high pile crushed velvet.

My plan is for a lighted display case for the first guitar I built. I thought it would be
great to have some of the interior to be of the same material as a case.

    I enjoyed the "felt" funny....:)

guitarmikeh- even though I'm looking for inside material I appreciate you chiming in.
You did give me the thought of covering the outside of the display case but I'll stick
    with some nice hardwood.

Thanks Drew. I'll see what that turns up too.
