2 problems with the same project

This project was started in X1

Whenever I open it up, I get a fairly loud pop from my monitors.
Thinking it might be a soft synth I disconnected all of them, save & re-opened but the pop still happens

I eventually got over it it putting an envelope on my master bus , pulled it down to -INF at measure 01:00:480, and then back up again to 0db just before the music starts.

This worked - no loud pop upon opening (though I would definitely still like to know what's causing it)

Now, problem 2 - I was attempting to record a guitar part on a brand new track, all armed & ready to go.

Hit 'R' and I could hear the metronome clearly enough, but no backing tracks. WTH?
Looking further, I could see the master fader was down at -INF (my recording was something like 4 minutes into the song, so it's not my envelope causing it)

Remove the envelope, and it behaves as expected.
Put the envelope back in and every time I hit 'R', the fader would jump to -INF irrespective of where I was on the time line.

I could show you a screen shot where the Now marker is clearly on a portion of the envelope where it's at 0db but the master fader is at -INF

So, has anyone else seen anything like this? Any chance someone can try and duplicate this last problem and confirm (or deny) the possible existence of a bug.

And this still leaves the loud 'pop' on opening the project.

I'm tempted to 'port it all over to a new project - it's all Midi at the moment apart from this one guitar part I'm working on

Thanks!

wrt 1, do you see anything on any track meters when the pop sounds? it might identify the culprit... (2) a symptom of the reported bus automation issues? if you solve (1) you could put the envelope on just that track...

wrt1 - difficult to tell as it only happens when the project is opening.

I'll save it down with the Console view open and try re-opening it to see if I can detect anything.

I suppose it would also make sense to set my meters to hold peaks.

wrt2 - it could well be related. I'll file a bug report as soon as I can.

Well, this might be getting sorted.

I narrowed it down to the track being fed from the PSYN II synth.

But it isn't the synth itself - I just disconnected the synth, saved, closed and reopened and was greeted by the pop.

This is being caused by Channel Tools in the Fx bin. Bypassing CT cures it.

I've used CT extensively since it was introduced in 8.0 and this is the first time I've had a problem with it.

I've deleted it from the FX bin, inserted another instance but still the track pops when opening.

is the fx bin pre- or post-pc? (and maybe what's in the pc?) is it a simple instrument track?

For some reason i always get a pop when i export a stereo file. When i import it back in to master the pop is there right at the start.
I use an exponential fade in to get rid of it. If i trim the clip, its still there at the start of the trimmed clip. Very annoying.

I hope you sort your problem out

PC is unlit & reads PRE, ergo Fx bin is in post

The PC itself has the 1176 compressor followed by single band of peak EQ

Synth is a split Midi/Audio track

    Hmm.

Killing the compressor kills the pop

As does swapping it for the S Type

I can confirm that Channel Tools may sometimes cause pops. I haven't seen it in X1d or X1c but definitely earlier last year. I have also tested my speakers durability by loud PSYN II "greeting" noises. At least you're not alone with your problems... if that helps ;-).

Space Age is my favorite, too. It's unfinished and far from perfect but I like it as is.
