Greetings from a new Sonar X1 user. Need help mapping Session Drummer to a controller.

First and foremost... hello! I just installed my spanking new copy of Sonar X1 Production Suite yesterday. Very nice stuff. I'll introduce myself a little more after I pose my question to save you all some time. This is in regards to the version of Session Drummer 3 that came bundled with the Sonar X1 Production Suite. I have scoured the web for an answer and browsed the help topics within Sonar and have not been able to find a solution or even a proper manual (if there IS a manual somewhere I would be very interested in viewing it)... thus the thread. If someone could help I'd be very grateful as I would really like to create a few test tracks without dorking around with the step sequencer (I am new to MIDI and used to be a live drummer so using the controller would be much more natural for me and I kind of want to play around with the sounds before recording anyway). The equipment: Korg padKontrol via USB 2.0 to PC. Updated drivers are installed. Sonar MIDI i/o set up. Session Drummer is recognizing pad strikes... just not the way I want it to (if I strike certain pads it will trigger an event in Session Drummer and in the Sonar track). What I am looking for is a "Learn" function like in Addictive Drums (which I intend to purchase once I recover financially from this last round of gear/DAW purchases). I see a few webpages that elude to it through a "Matrix Grid" but I just can't seem to find that function or view. Essentially I'd like to be able to load, for example, the Zep kit, click on a piece to "learn" it and then click the pad on my padKontrol to load it into the pK's memory (or however that info is stored). I have NOT installed the pK editor librarian as it shouldn't be necessary for this and I did manage to get the demo version of Addictive Drums to complete this process and be functional without it. Frankly the pK and its associated software is, to me, rather complex and annoying so I like the "learn" function type stuff. If THAT is not possible at all and there is no "learn" function within Session Drummer 3 for MPC style controllers I would like to know how I could see the actual MIDI note CC#s so I can program desirable scenes straight into the pK and the Editor Librarian (which is gonna be a pain from what I can tell but if that's how its gotta be... well that's how its gotta be). However I can't seem to find the drum map/piano roll for that Zep kit (or others) and I am still a little overwhelmed by all the tabs, views, windows, etc... within Sonar. So tl;dr 1) Where's the "learn" function in Session Drummer 3 (or Sonar Producer)? 2) Where do I find the actual MIDI note CC#s for Session Drummer 3? Thanks. I'm gonna grab a beer and then I'll introduce myself in my next post. Cheers.

Bah... sorry for the wall of text. I did format that. I guess I need to learn how to use this forum properly too.

So anyway... I'm a guit, bass, vox, ex-drummer, aspiring keyboard player and aspiring producer. Learned how to build my own DAW PC and recently built it (i7 2600k, Corsair Vengeance 16GB DDR3, ASUS Pro Gen3, Seagate 7200 6 mbp/s 500GB program, 1 TB write, Noctua CPU cooling, Zalman z9 deluxe case, Win7 Pro). I'm using an Echo Layla 3G PCI interface (I've owned it for years and can't afford to upgrade but it is still working well. When I do upgrade I'll probably get a MOTU box). I'm into all styles of music and I intend on using Sonar to produce and record full albums for myself as well as others and will also be using it for guitar theory tutorials. I like beer, pretty girls, learning new stuff and music. So there ya have it. That's a Beepster. Pleased to meet ya.

    Welcome to the forum.
I don't have SD 3, but does it have an ACT button on it's GUI? ACT can allow you to map functions in the synth to controls on a controller. Never did it though. You should be able to hit the F1 key on the computer keyboard with SD in focus to bring up SD 3's Help files. Not exactly a 'manual', but it might help.
Truthfully, I don't think you'll get many responses here despite the fact that you're getting started. You'll probably get more help with this in the X1 forum. This page isn't highly travelled by the advanced users.
And the formatting is related to your browser and the forum software. It especially doesn't like Firefox. Likes IE okay.

Thank you muchly. I will definitely check that out tomorrow. Tonight I have put away the pK (after wrestling with it fruitlessly for a few hours) and have resigned myself to reading the Sonar help topics from beginning to end so I can get a better grasp on the different views and concepts before I start probing around much further. From a few youtube tuts it seems I may have to snag a blank template somewhere so I can add elements as I go. Loading the "Normal" template (which as far as I can tell is the most basic template included) loads a whole ton of stuff I'm not really ready to poke around with yet (and seems to lack certain basic stuff in Cakewalks own tuts like tabs and menus for various functions described) and my screen is clogged. Pretty slick but rather overwhelming for me and my monitor. Guess I need at least one more screen to view it all properly. Also I loaded a SD3 kit and started playing some loops then tried to minimize it so I could see what Sonar was doing and it CRASHED SD. Whoops. Probably a bug somewhere. Anyway, thanks for the tip and I'll check out the X1 forums after I read up a bit. Shame about the Cakewalk forums not liking FF. I haven't used IE for years. Again, thanks. I'll be back.
