X1 Studio -- CPU usage and "harmfulness"

Dear users of the forum,

I'm a normal guy interested in starting MIDI sequencing as a hobby. The X1 Studio is the software suite I'm currently eyeing, but before deciding (or trying a demo version) there are a couple questions on which I'd like to get some clarification.

First, I'm interested in the rough system requirements for my personal purposes. I expect to be able to load a good number of soundfonts (maybe two intstances of sfz+), preferably with a couple other standard VSTi's and basic effects. Secondly, I'd like to know whether the full version installs any kind of background process or other software that is resource hungry even when the actual program is not running.

Finally, due to certain circumstances I'm running my operating system on the Japanese locale settings for non-Unicode programs, while the version of Sonar i'm interested in is the standard English language version. Would this be a problem?

I'm currently running Win7 64-bit on an Intel i5-2500k, 8GB of memory and the M-audio 2496.

Thanks in advance!

Your requirements are quite modest and will be no problem on most any PC or laptop purchased today, barring low-end Atom-based netbooks. Your 64bit i5 will handle that easily.

Some folks report issues with m-audio drivers; difficult to know whether that model is affected.

Background processes are beyond my knowledge; mostly it is the other way around: Anti-Virus software interfering with Sonar and such like.

Generally it is advisable to get a PC which you use ONLY for Sonar or audio applications.

The second point is probably best answered by downloading a trial version and just having a go. It will either work or not. (although VSTi plugs may each behave in their own individual way).

    hth.

Edit: Glad to hear you're a normal guy. We could use a few more of those! :)

Sonar doesn't leave anything going on at all when it's not running.
