Am I Bad Bapu?

My 14 and 12 year old grandsons are stripping and sanding our two front rails so that I can primer and repaint them.

The are only 6 feet long on two 3 foot high posts.

I'm paying them $20 each for the work.

Are there child labor laws against such things?

Get them to paint them too.

Well I was trying to decide if white paint all over the brickwork would be value add. They are 14 and 12 after all.

They should be paying you for the experience.

Make them clean it off if it goes all over the place.

It'll teach them to be more careful.

Did you negotiate that price?  Did you even try to start at $10 or did you just blurt out $20 and hope for the best?

$20? I'll come an do it for you, as long as I can use the 'special' exchange rate used in the online store.

Holy crap!  I only wish I could have been paid like that when I was 12-14!  Actually, just getting paid anything would have been nice...

    Man!?

    Can't you do anything yourself?

It must be hard having so many people to nag.  I'm surprised anything gets done.

    Where are the power tools?

Don't you have a pressure washer?

When exactly was the last time you allowed an 12 and/or 14 year old boy use a power tool?

I'm pretty sure my dad had given me some of my very own power (hand) tools by that age.

OTOH, he still won't loan me his chain saw.
