Purchased and installed Waves GTR Solo

Hi, all.  Purchaed Waves GTR Solo from Musicians Friend for $18, installed and authorized it.  I thought that I would post a few observaions about it.  One, I searched a lot of resources (manual, readme, web, forums, etc.) looking for the plugin directory where I found no information on it.  All I could do was try and watch where the install locations were as it whizzed past on the screen during installation.  Strangely, it runs both 32 and 64-bit versions and I have Sonar X1d Producer Expanded loaded onto my i7 machine, but the directory for both are found in  the "waveshell" directory under the program files (x86) directory, which includes the 64-bit program directory.  After going through the Waves convoluted install/authorization process, finally got it running in both Sonar 32 and 64 bit versions.  However, it seems that I have to have the track input echo engaged to hear it.  Is this usual?  If so, then for some reason, my latency seems obvious and it is the only plug that does so on my system.  Thoughts?

Regards

I just installed the demo of GTR 3.5 (not solo) and it choose by default to install the 32 bit in the x86 programs/cakewalk/vstplugins and the 64 bit in the C:/programs/vstplugins.  At least that is what I remembered it doing (I am not at my studio computer and recalling this from my failing vintage memory (read= old age)).  It did give me the chance /option of changing the locations of both the 32 & 64 bit directories for the dll's.

As to your question, yes, you have to have the echo engaged to hear it, but that is normal for these software amp sims (like GR4 and Amplitube).  Hope this helps.
BTW, I posted a query about GTR3.5 on the gear/software section below.  I was not impressed with the sounds and wanted to hear from others.  Here is a link to my post: http://forum.cakewalk.com/tm.aspx?m=2570257  Let me know what you think once you "drive" it for a while.

Thanks for the thoughts.  I clicked on your link and checked it out.  My impression of the plug is not exactly what I thought it was going to be.  I watched the videos on the Waves site where it was being demoed, and it sounded great there.  When I got it into my system, it seemed to crackle from being too hot a signal, so I switched the input on my Focusrite Scarlett 18i6 from instrument to line and that seemed to clean up the integrity of the signal.  However, beyond the obvious latency noted before, I found that it seemed to lack any bottom end and sounded rather on the tinny side.  Also, it appeared to "hum" like a real guitar amp which I think is not supposed to happen.  Must be some kind of gain staging problem.

I have Waves 9 and it installs the base program in Program Files (x86) and installs 32 and 64bit.  If you are running Sonar 64bit, it will automatically run Waves 64bit only (obviously).  I like the sound of GTR Solo.. it took some tweeking though, but so did Amplitude.  ; )
