Automation Issue

This is my week for weird problems. (Of course, it is because I have a project overdue.) The latest one (which has happened before): a track is a little too quiet with the fader set on -12 or so, which is just where it happened to be from tracking. I enable WRITE automation, start the track, and now, with the fader all the way up to 0 and beyond, it plays back more quietly than before. WHAT THE HECK? For the record, in this case, it is Ivory II Grand as a VST virtual instrument.

Sounds like an Offset mode problem, check you don't have lots of little + signs everywhere.

Why the automation? Have you tried taking the automation off and just manually raising the fader?

+1 on good old offset. The number of times that catches me out.

    Thanks, guys.

I am using automation because the piano comps at times, plays fills at times, and has a solo.

I will look for the + signs although not sure where I am looking.
