borders of a take

Hi there, my problem is, that when I m recording I set the left and right loop-points. then i start to record, but the recorded take does not fit in the loop-points. the take is allways shorter than the loop itself. How can I record a take/clip, that fits between the left and right loop-point (like it is done in cubase). second question is: when I record, and the cursor jumps back because it reaches the end of a loop, I get something like 2 takes. how can i merge those 2 takes into 1 take that has all information of both 2 takes. In cubase there is something like glue, which does this job. thanks for the help

    Welcome to the forum.
I've never had any recording software other than Cakewalk, so I don't know how they work.
Question 1. Change the loop points.
Question 2. Drag the second recording to the end of the first.
I've read that Cakewalk doesn't do looping like other programs; it's more for recording multiple takes so you can have many takes to choose from for the final mix, or for practicing a part of the song over and over.

Do you mean Cubase automatically stretches the music to fill the loop, no matter what you play, or that it creates a clip that fills the loop even when you play only a few notes?

You don't mention if you're recording audio or MIDI. If its MIDI, SONAR always cuts the clip end according to the length of the MIDI note. You can slip edit the clip longer.

You can merge the layered clips by bouncing to clips.

Thanks for your help @gregy - changing looppoints does not help, and draging the clip does not help too. I think I had problems to explain my problem so you didnt understand what i meant. @Kalle - yes, Thats what i meant. The clip should be automatically stretched to fill the loop, even if I only play one little note in the whole clip. Its about recording midi - audio I havent tried by now. I found out, that a Grooveclip Loopfunktion can play a clip as often as I want. But its not working right, if the clip has the wrong lenght. And it is a lot of work, to stretch every clip manually to the right lenght. There must be something, that gets the clip into the right lenght.

Did you try slip editing before drag copying or copy-pasting? Or does it not work for this purpose?

I watched a video about slip editing - seems not the solution of the problem.
If I set the Looppoints 1.0.0 (left) and 5.0.0 (right) and I start a recording, I want the recorded clip to have a lenght of 4 bars. Even if I only play one 1/16 note somewhere in the middle of the whole clip, the clip should have the lenght of 4 bars. Always. I dont want to stretch the clip because it is not 4 bars.
Is there a solution, or is this impossible in sonar x1? Makes me realy mad, that such an easy thing is so hard to find! I dont want to write numbers in the clip settings for every thing I do. Please tell me, that this basic funktion is integrated to sonar x1... *totally frustrated because 2 days of search now!
