Track template confusion!

I've just started experimenting with track templates in X1d expanded (I know I'm always late to the party!) All I want to do is set up a simple bus structure to start a project with a drum bus and an instrument bus feeding into a master bus which then feeds the main outputs. Each of the buses has an FX chain containing 3 plugs. I also have my 3 favourite softsynths setup and patched into the appropriate buses. When I try inserting this template into a new project everything loads as expected except that the FX chains on the buses are empty. They're sitting correctly in the FX bins for the buses and named correctly but there are no plugs loaded into the chains!? Surely this can't be normal functionality? What am i missing?

That's a good question that I'd like to know the answer, too!

I started out with nothing and I still have most of it left...

Have you tried extracting the fx chains and then saving the template? I haven't tried what your doing yet, just throwing out an idea.

I think saving the effects set up is a different function than the save template function. I haven't gotten that far into the help topics menu yet though so that is semi extracted from my butt.

Saving the track template does save all of the efx. Apparently though, the OP has uncovered a flaw. Saving the efx chain does not save the actual effects within the chain. I just tried this back and forth both ways. It will save an empty efx chain.

To save the track template with the efx chain in the bus, you have to first extract the chain and then save the template. It works fine that way.

Anyone finding this to be true, should put in a problem report. I'm off to so that now.

@musicroom... Good to know. I could see that being a PITA down the road.

Thanks Beepster - That was a good find by jeffb.

Track templates are great otherwise. I was just singing their praises the other day in another thread. They remember all of the buses, routing and several tracks if needed.

I like using them for a new project that I didn't use a project template on for one reason or another. I can insert for instance, my favorite vox track template, and all the buses (about 8 of them) are inserted into the project along with the efx, proch settings, etc.

I also tried an experiment where I selected everything in a multi track project and saved it as a track template. Recalled everything perfectly including several instances of soft synths. Hope cake fixes this fx chain flaw, not sure how many people will know to extract the fx chain to save the template properly. I didn't until today.

Yeah... I'm starting to realize how many little bugs and quirks X1 has but I guess with such a huge platform it's to be expected. It just makes the task of learning everything (I'm a n00b) a little more daunting. Gonna be making my first call to Cakewalk support today to fix a few things.
