Indaba contest entry -- Cinematic Soul

Hi there, I am submitting the following to an Indaba contest and am wondering if the vocals are too overpowering in the mix. I still have a few days before the deadline to fix it if needed. Please let me know what you think, thanks! http://soundcloud.com/mos...-climax-cinematic-soul

first of all, great job on arrangement, vocal etc but yes, the vocal does seem to overpower the music

Take a bow.  This is a beautiful cover and great vocal performance.  What's not to like?  The production is very professional, and though I don't follow Usher very closely, this might persuade me to give him a bit more attention.  Really, really good.

All the best,
Lynn

No, its not that the vocals are too loud. Its just the leads and pads are too soft. The rest seems balanced to me. Truth be told, I am not too fond of the pad you used, but thats a personal preference. Check your master bus compression. The volume drops off considerably near the 3:00 min mark as the music swells.

I am not sure if the vocals are too up in the mix or if the backing volumes are too low- just a little tweaking and it will be perfect. Great job on this.

I've taken another stab at adjusting the leves and also changed the instrumentation a little based on your comments here and over at Indaba.

Again, really appreciate the feedback.
