@SilentMind... the new hardware you bought, is it actually old PCI or is it PCIe? PCIe is supposed to be fine. Also I want to update that post I made about the PCI to PCIe adapters. According to support apparently they can cause problems of their own so perhaps best to avoid that kind of thing. Also there is what might be a work around that has now been mentioned to me twice. If you are just mixing/adjusting levels switch to the onboard sound of your PC to avoid crashes and dropouts. Obviously that doesn't work for recording though. Just something that might keep your work moving along while trying to find a proper solution. I might give that a crack later.

My old Delta 44 PCI was my trusty workhorse for nearly 10 years but as soon as I upgraded past a windows xp / quadcore setup to a win 7 / i7 combo it proved no end of trouble - crackles, pops, crashes ... you name it! For about 6months I persevered trying every tweak I could get my hands on, beta drivers and so on to no avail (including many obscure ones involving BIOS changes suggested by the M-Audio forum).

I've since moved on to another PCI vendor (RME) and all is good again. Not sure if it was the Avid take-over of M-Audio or some obscure problem with modern implementations of the PCI bus, or indeed something else entirely but my days of frustration with the Delta 44 will not be forgotten. Shame really because I had nothing but good things to say about my Delta until the hardware upgrade.

Don't torture yourself like I did, try a modern PCI card if you can and just get on with the music making.

G'luck!

Interesting,

I went through the same frustration with my 1010LT when using
the WDM driver. Yes , I have noroblem when using ASIO.

But here is an interesting point that points to sonar. I have 0, yes 0,
ptoblem when I am running S8.5 on the same W7 64 bits running an I7 ona gigabyte mobo Pc.

Yes, you read it correctly.  My 1010LT works like before using WDM with S8.5 but with X1 I have to switch to ASIO.

Ok, Avid is probably part of the problem but I won'T step and will coninue to say that X1 is also guilty.

@High and Dry... you may want to verify Win7 will actually work properly with your old boards. I'm not sure but I think that might cause problems in certain instances. As well I'd make sure Delta have up to date Win 7 drivers. I'm sure they do but it would be something to look into. Good luck.
Yeah I ran the microsoft test from their website and they both seem to be compatible.  I eventually will have to bite the bullet and get new interfaces but if I could just switch to win 7 64 and get beyond the 2 or 3 gig (whatever it is)it would be a step forward

@High and Dry... I'm a little curious as to why you feel the need to upgrade to Win7 at this point? The reason I ask is because I know some people just feel it's the thing to do but unless you have a specific need for it you probably shouldn't bother and just save up for a new build. XP is currently the most stable MS platform out there and obviously all your hardware is working. Messing around with new OSs and stuff an old gear is pretty much guaranteed to cause some issues no matter what MS or the manufacturers tell you. Like the old saying goes... if it ain't broke don't fix it. I have a ton of advice and insights for you in this regard as I spent almost a full year researching my new build (and something STILL borked up on me) so yeah... I'll toss my thoughts and foibles at you if you are interested. For now though I'm gonna go slap around my guit for a while to blow off some steam but I'll be back in a little while so let me know what's up. Peace.

@Beepster.   thanks for your insight.  I really appreciate it.  I guess the main reason is having the benefits of more ram.  But if it aint broke dont fix it is right.  A couple years back I discovered that my stuff worked way better with an older m audio driver than the "newest"

First off I'm gonna start pointing in the threads that I am not a tech and I'm new to Sonar so there are more qualified people here to answer questions. I did however put a lot of time and thought into my new set up and if I think I can offer some ideas or advice I will try my best. That said... I dropped about $1500 on parts (including the Win 7 Pro) into my new system. I maxed everything out as much as possible with consumer grade stuff (without doing silly things like paying double the price for parts to only eke out a little extra power... to me that's just silly). I could have built a quality system that would run Sonar properly for maybe around $800 if I had just gone with a couple different manufacturers, left out a few unneeded connectivity options and sacrificed a bit of the over top speed specs I've got going. Even then I would have been future ready and I still would have had a lot of expandability options. So that's something to consider. Then depending on your needs you can get decent i/o boxes starting at $200-300 that'll work with the newer system. You already have Sonar so I think you could just get an upgrade or use your current version on the new rig saving you the money of new DAW software. Essentially you could have a solid, working, modern workstation for under $1500 if you really put your head into it. Then you could still use your old one as well. Trying to upgrade piece meal will probably just be a huge pain and possibly cost you just as much money in the end. Cheers!

And just because I'm stuck at the computer for another minute I kind of want to do the math of how much I might have save with just some rather insignificant downgrades on my system. This is all approximate and from memory.
CPU: If I had gone with the i5 instead of the i7 -$80

MOBO: If I had gone with a Gigabyte with less connectivity options and other fancy stuff instead of the ASUS... -$80

RAM: If I had gone with 4-8 GB instead of 16GB and opted for something not as fancy as the Corsair Vengeance maybe -$40-60

PSU: If I had gotten another brand and taken advantage of some of the wicked PSU deals that pop up on Newegg all the time as opposed to the modular Cooler Master Silent Pro 700W -$40 or more

Cooling: If I had used the stock Intel CPU fan/sink instead of the Noctua -$100

Case: If I had bought just a standard ATX case instead of the Zalman Z9 plus -$40-60

HDDs: I probably could have only saved a few bucks here and I think it's probably best to get the best hardrives possible so this isn't worth mentioning

OS: I might have saved $20 or so if I got Win 7 Home instead of Pro so again negligible

So yeah... there's at least $400 I could have easily saved and still had a powerhouse of a system. I just wanted the best. Even some of the prebuilt boxes you can snag at the box stores for rather cheap will run this stuff.
