Session Drummer 3 multi-track mixdown?

Hello, friends -

You may think I'm crazy for even wanting to try this... but here is the scenario:

I have nine tracks of Session Drummer that I have tweaked until I am satisfied with them.
I don't have the most powerful system (only 8GB of RAM), and there are 12 more full tracks recorded (plus three vocal tracks yet to capture).
I hoped to free some resources as a precaution by bouncing the nine drum tracks to a single stereo audio track... but I can't make it work.
I have tried several methods, including muting all other tracks and attempting to do an "Entire Mix" bounce of just the drums, but I get nothing.

I am probably going about this wrong, but I am stumped.

Help?

OlSkoolGuy

Well, for one, your system is well capable of handling the sort of project you're talking about.

My old DAW - a Q6700 under Win XP32 and 4Gb of RAM could run up to and beyond 75 audio tracks, multiple plugs, multiple instances on unbounced V-Vocal instances, loads of Midi, so I think your reasoning for wanting to bounce is slightly misguided.

Your system should - in theory - absolutely blow my old one out of the water

What are your resource meters showing?

For maximum flexibility, another option which I would seriously consider is simply to freeze Session Drummer.

This will leave you with just your 9 audio drum tracks and you'll still be able to tweak any EQ or compression settings, plus any other Fx or sends you want to throw at it.

The Sonar CPU/RAM/HDD meters are all OK (The 4 cores barely bounce... I have the threads well-balanced), but the Windows screen shows nearly half my RAM is either allocated or cached, leaving just over 4 GB free.
Maybe I am worrying over nothing. Thanks for the reply.

You can freeze it all but if you want to bounce it then you need to bounce to track(s).

You may as well learn bounce to tracks anyway for future reference. You may as well learn how to freeze and unfreeze too.

    strikingly...

Thanks! I have learned the art of freezing/unfreezing (really not a lot to that), and I THOUGHT I knew how to bounce to tracks (I have done it with various audio tracks in the past) but I can't seem to get it to work with SD.

For a bounce to track you MUST include both the Midi track AND the associated Audio track(s)

Then either solo these (or mute everything else)

    Hope this helps.

Love your quote by the way - I have another one:

Interviewer: "So Frank, you have long hair. Does that make you a woman?"
FZ: "You have a wooden leg. Does that make you a table?"

You need to highlight what you want (audio/midi) - edit - bounce to track(s). I'm not an X1 user but it should be something like that. Jonesey will confirm.

Ahhh. For some reason I wasn't thinking the MIDI track had to be included to bounce the audio. I learn something every day. Thanks, guys!

Jonesy: I see the need for not 1 but 2 lava lamps: there must be a certain symmetry in all things.

Regarding Frank, there were about 100 great quotes in his PRMC Senate testimony alone!
