Just crank it up until everything is in the red, hit Record and listen to that beautiful Digital Harmonic Distortion*

You need to chain several instances of Boost 11 for it to work properly

This is called "trolling", Dappa, and though entertaining is generally discouraged on forums.

You see, some people just can't resist jumping in on a troll post, which is the whole point of them...I, however, will be strong and resist the temptation.

Or not. Jonesey, how many chained instances do you recommend? I normally use two, but I can still see a few potholes in my output waveform. Do you think three would smooth it out better?

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

Look Shaun, what some of these people on this forum haven't got is, well it's a few things.

In regards to recording hot, lets take the example of Softube and various other tube emulators, what these emualtors are supposed to be doing is dialing in 2nd level harmonic distortion, all I am saying is try and find it elsewhere in the real world.  This means for example you have a tube pre-amp by defintion it needs to run pretty hot to get those 2nd level harmonic distortions.

This means in real terms, the input stage of your little black box will be quite hot.

What was funny was in that Paul Frindle thread I posted, he suggested emualtions were a waste of time, and there is def a difference between real tube harmonics, transistor harmonics and emualtions.  But each can bring it's own colour to the mix.

Another thing I was talking about was historical perspective, if any of these so called experts on this forum understood this they would understand what I am talking about is quite feasible.

Harmonic distortion in the 1970's was the holy grail of recording, the tone as I have suggested, of the vox amp, the u87 and the EMI made REDD console was one part of the equation to making a great sounding record.

If any of these so called experts understood that there is a progresion from The Beatles, through to Queen in terms of the audio engineers, the tricks they learnt and why stuff sounded good they would understand what I am talking about.

Hello boffins, does anyone here know and rememmber that EMI made their own consoles until the late 70's and almost all of the great sounding records were made on these consoles, including Revolver, The White Album, Abbey Road, Dark Side of The Moon, A Night At The Opera.

One thing most people haven't got is historical perspective!!!

Finally I never said I was the only one doing hybrid recordings, what a joke the forum Nazis, and they are forum Nazis (where are your papers, you do not speak proper English, we will destroy you, Exterminate!!!) I was suggesting with the aformentioned knowledge another approach was needed to make our home recordings better, more interesting sounding and to get the most out of our little black boxes once again another approach was needed.

So how are you finding recording hot does it work with your final mix are you getting better sounding recordings than that of the 60's and 80's. Are musicians and artist intensely interested in the way you record and are you now the brand new standard?

Bitflipper! lets hope that not many will take this post to serious as it would be ashame to follow the knowledge that I have on this issue. I am a proud hobbyist who records and...well, stops half way through. I am a finisher, I keep telling myself. If i record hot it my give me some importus (sue me) to continue. Ok teach me how to spell too!

You can listen to how it works with his final mixes at the soundcloud link in his signature. I make no comment on the actual songs themselves, but I don't think I'm being unfair in describing the engineering and production as "just about adequate for demo purposes".
