Control audio plugins with midi cc's using a controller?

I would think that if you can automate any plugin parameter by hitting the 'W' and moving the parameter that you can assign a midi cc to control the same parameter.

Am I right?  How?

Edit:  What I am trying to do is use a USB Joystick like a tremolo/whammy bar on a guitar.  I have the USB Joystick and I am trying out MiJoy which is responding to the joystick and will transmit midi CC.  I am also trying out QuikQuak Pitchwheel and I want to connect the Joysitck to Pitchwheel.

You have to configure the plugin as a synth and load it as a synth. Works fine but has some drawbacks!

Okay, so I've configured it as a synth and loaded it as synth, how do I tell it to respond to a certain Midi CC?

I think you have to use the ACT function. There are some tutorials in the Cakewalk University part of the site and on youtube. I am not sure if this is accurate but I remember seeing them do this type of thing in those vids.

Yeah ACT works. I had some situations where it wasn't suitable for me though. I much prefer to use the Remote Control feature in the synth rack for simple MIDI controlling.

I tried ACT to map my padKontrol with Session Drummer the other night and it only let me map the pad pieces with SD. Kind of annoying but I'm probably missing something. I figured out how to program the pK itself last night though so it doesn't really matter. I just have to figure out how to view the actual CC#s within SD3 now so I'm not just turning the dial on my pK until I find the piece I want. It's a little frustrating but at least it works now. I was hoping it would work like Addictive Drums where you just click a "Learn" button on each piece and then hit the button you want to play it with on the pK.
