Please somebody help me.
I currently use Sonar Producer 6 on my computer for home studio recording. I am having a problem that I just can't seem to solve and I am sure that it is an easy fix. Whenever I slide something I have recorded to left to snug it up next to another file, it makes the tail end of the first file disappear. Then I have to click and drag that file back to it's original size. Is there anyway to make this happen. I am doing some cell work similar to John Cage and their are going to be incredibly small files that I will need to nestle up to each other, and when I try it now the files basically almost disappear and I have to do what I mentioned above. If anyone could help me, it would be greatly appreciated.

Tough to figure out exactly what you're trying to do here (not enough info yet) but a few suggestions. First, try recording into alternate tracks. You could use multiple audio tracks but 2 audio tracks should suffice. First clip on track 1, second clip on track 2, third clip on track 1 again and so on, similiar to basic video editing. Having the clips alternate on seperate tracks also allows you to see how much they will overlap or not. If your clips are not recorded to be exact measure/beat lengths and you are not trying to maintain solid metronome-like rhythm turn off the "Snap to grid" or else when you slide a clip to the left Sonar will always try to place the beginning of the clip on a specific point (measure, beat or whatever unit the "Snap to grid" is set to) often resulting in covering up a previous clip.

I will try to explain what I am doing. Say I have a track open in which I am going to be adding short files end to end. Each tiny file that I am importing needs to be snug against each other on this one track. So I import file # 1 into track one. Say it is a 5 second clip of violins. Then I import a small 5 second clip of car engines. When I go to slide the car engine file over to the left to run snug up against the violin track that I started with, it clips off a small portion of the initial violin snippit, then I have to grab the side of the violin clip and drag it back over to the right to meet the left edge of the car engine sample. I have checked out a gazillion things online, and even have tried to search for a way in HELP manual. Is there away to make these two files nestle up to each other in a drag situation that will not snip either file? that is the main question.

I have Sonar 4 and moved straight to 8.5 so uncertain about ver 6. Go to Options for Snap To Grid. In earlier versions you can choose Snap to Clip Boundaries, in later versions choose Landmarks - Audio Clips. This should make the clips snap together without any overlap.

If you overlap WAV files in an audio track by a small amount you will get a cross-fade. You haven't lost any data, the overlapped portions will still be audible. If you have clips without fade-in, no matter how small, you will probably hear a click at the start of each clip. Your best bet is to set fade-in to FAST IN and fade-out to SLOW OUT. Drag the end of each clip by a small amount then position the clip to suit. You can shift clips by very small amounts by selecting the clip (click on the clip) then using the 4 or 6 key on your numeric pad you can move the clip to the left or right until the clip is positioned where you want it to be.

You have the option of locking the position of the clips you are trying to "butt" up against.

So I realize I may not be describing it well enough so I posted a very short video on youtube to show what I am talking about. Please watch and maybe we can figure out what I am doing wrong. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MV29lY2vQFc Thank you all so very much.

The clips I used to slide together in the video where clips that were about 10-15 seconds in length. What I will be sliding together in my project are hundreds of clips between 2 and 5 seconds. If you do that same procedure with clips that short, it doesn't just clip them, they completely disappear.

Go to Options>Global and choose Editing tab. Make sure Slide Over Old To Make Room is NOT selected. Especially make sure Align To Measure is not selected, heheh. Bingo!

Oh, and also do NOT choose Replace Old With New with the option Delete Measure. Choose Blend. Then follow the procedure I specified with the snapping. Nothing will blend, the clips will snap together like magnets.
